By Andy Heuring The District 4 Coun- ty Council primary for the Democrat nomination has five year incumbent Myre- on Krohn being challenged by former county council- man Norman Dillon. Krohn and Dillon served as coun- cilmen at the same time, but after redistricting and Dil- lon being displaced by I-69, they ended up in the same district. normAn dillon Norman Dillon, from near Otwell, lives with his wife, Carrie, and their son, Logan. He works for Hoo- sier Energy as a mechan- ic. He graduated from Pike Central and has four years of trade school training, as well as certification from the Association of Indiana Coun- ties as a county councilman. Dillon is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 1393, a member of the Free Meth- odist Church and vice-chair of the Pike County Soil and Water Conservation District Board. "With I-69 being built, the future for Pike County is to have an industrial park and take advantage of our ex- change in our county. There are a lot of people who have lost their homes and farms to the highway and not to do anything is a waste," said Dillon about why he is run- ning for county council. "I feel the commissioners and our elected officials are looking toward the future of our county and I would like to be a part of it," said Dillon. Dillon talked about goals he would like to accomplish. "I would like to improve our county roads and I would like to see manufacturing jobs come into our county to employee our young people. We need to get more young people involved in politics in Pike County. "I'm honest, hardwork- ing. I like to have documen- tation on projects and items for budget, where if the tax payers ask me why I voted yes or no for a project, I can show them this is why I vot- ed that way." myreon KroHn Myreon Krohn is a five term incumbent from the community of Coe. He and his wife, Nancy, have a daughter, Amy, and three granddaughters, Madyson, Mikayla and Makynna. He farms and has operat- ed an excavating business since 1983. Krohn graduated from Winslow High School. He is a member of the Winslow Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, Scottish Rite and a member of the New Liber- ty Church. "I have five terms under my belt. I have been in busi- ness for myself since 1983, when they closed down the mine. Having served five terms, I have probably got as much experience as any- body on the council," said Krohn. "Currently Pike County is still in the black financially. I solemnly and wholehearted- ly believe Pike County needs to stay in the black. Some other counties have gotten their finances in the red. Pike County doesn't want to let that happen," said Krohn about why he is running for re-election. "I have lived in Monroe Township all my life. We own property there and we would like to hand that on to our grandkids some- time. That is why I want to see Pike County stay in the black." Krohn said his goal is to "continue to insure finan- cial responsibility to keep the county solvent. We need to try to keep our roads and bridges, and keep them as we can afford it. It is a never ending battle. My feeling is we need to watch and try to keep enough of our funding in place for our roads." Another goal listed by Krohn was economic devel- opment. "Economic devel- opment is something that needs to be watched. Pro- viding the people involved in it with funding, but that needs to be accountable to the taxpayers as to how they are spending that mon- ey and whether we are get- ting any prospects or bene- fits from it," said Krohn. "I think it is something we have to do, providing we do it within our means. Ac- countability is the thing that needs to be stressed in do- ing that. "I have many years of working with county bud- gets and I would like to in- sure a sound future for the next generation. I think that is where we have to watch, which way the tax base has gone in the last few years, which is a downward mo- tion. We have to watch our spending," said Krohn about why people should vote for him. Let Randy's experience work for the future of Pike County.
