Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, owner of Southridge, made the deci- sion Nov. 1 to relocate the county's bus stop 1,000 feet away from the doors leading into the mall. A number of organizations have decried the measure in recent months, stat- ing it puts seniors and persons with disabili- ties at an inconvenient disadvantage. In the past five months, a number of efforts have taken shape, including a series of public events known as Get on the B.U.S.S. (Bus User Safety at Southridge) that have entailed bus rides from a specific venue, such as the Kelly Senior Center in Cudahy, to the mall. On Tuesday, members of a group known as the B.U.S.S. Coalition held a town hall- style meeting at St. Alphonsus Church in Greendale to discuss their latest efforts in attempting to restore the stop at one of the most prominent retail establishments on the county's southern end. Since Simon made its announcement, Milwaukee County Supervisor Pat Jursik has been one of the most vocal opponents. She serves as the coor- dinator of the B.U.S.S. Coalition and led this week's meeting. "It is flat out wrong to unnecessarily put users in harm's way – particularly the elder- ly, physically impaired and disabled veter- ans," Jursik said. "Not only is this move Relocation of bus stop an inconvenience for seniors, persons with disabilities, they say See B.U.S.S. on Page 2 MILWAUKEE COUNTY'S WEEKLY NEWSPAPER MARCH 28, 2014 Jursik Zimmermann's Service 360 E.
