ABC recently announced that some of the biggest names in soap operas will be crashing the set of its prime- time crime drama “Castle” for an upcoming episode in March. A/Pine Ridge Grocery B/Smoker Friendly 1 x 4 Cameron Mathison and Re- becca Budig (both of “All My Children”) and Corbin Berns- en (“The Young and the Rest- less”) will be joined by TV and film veteran Jane Seymour for the special episode, which is played out on the set of the fictional New York-based soap opera “Temptation Lane.” There’s an interesting con- nection between the epi- sode’s title, “One Life to Lose,” and the show’s star: Nathan Fillion, who plays the title character, used to be a soap actor as well. He portrayed Joey Buchanan on “One Life to Live” in the mid-’90s and then returned for a two-epi- sode cameo appearance in 2007. In the special episode, Cas- tle and NYPD Det. Kate Beck- ett arrive on the scene of a murder, and the victim is “Temptation Lane’s” head writer, Sarah Cutler. Behind-the-scenes drama between Sarah’s husband, mother and two of the show’s stars leads Castle to believe that his skills as a writer will help them see through the scandals, unravel the mystery and find the killer. In the episode, Mathison will play the victim’s husband, Vince Bowers, who is also the show’s director. Castle discov- ers he’s intimately linked to much of the backstage drama. Sarah’s mother, Gloria Cham- bers (played by Seymour), is desperately trying to keep a secret from everyone there. THE VALUE OF ‘X’: The sum of $5 million has a nice ring to it. And Fox is sure thousands will turn out to sing for it. The network that brought us “American Idol” is getting set to launch the next big singing competition series, “The X Factor,” and it’s moti- vating potential superstars with this whopping number. Auditions will start on Sunday, March 27, in Los Angeles. Hopefuls can also try out in Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York and Seattle. As the value of the record- ing contract the winner will receive, the amount has set records as “the largest guar- anteed prize in television his- tory,” according to Fox. As many would suspect, “The X Factor” must have some pretty big players at- tached to it as its own x-fac- tors in order to warrant such a huge prize. When it comes to the music industry and com- petition shows, these names don’t get much bigger. The show is being led by none other than former “Idol” judge Simon Cowell. His en- tertainment company, Syco, and its parent company, Sony Music, have partnered with FremantleMedia North Ameri- ca to guarantee the lucrative contract.
