Red Bluff Daily News
I would like to share one of my favorite Christmas memories. I had the privilege to grow up in the Nevada County area of Grass Valley. Every Friday night starting with the one after Thanksgiving until Christmas, Grass Valley has an event called Cornish Christmas.
Sharing a Christmas Memory
From about 6 to 9 p.m., the main streets downtown are blocked off and the stores stay open late for shoppers. You can enjoy delicious food, handmade arts and crafts, musicians, the Grass Valley Cornish Carol Choir and Santa Claus. Downtown is decorated for Christmas with plenty of vendors and various schools and clubs caroling. This year will the 43rd Annual Cornish Christmas.
It was a tradition for me to go every Friday as a child, then teen, then as an adult with my children.
I remember being asked several times at school over the years, “Are you going to Cornish Christmas tonight?” You could meet with your friends, bump into relatives, old neighbors and get into the spirit of Christmas.
I could go today and it would still be the same. Janice DeWart
