Page 3 Features Spartan Radio experiments with a podcast Garrett Ward Staff Writer RBHS has successfully run an entertaining FM radio station for the last ten or so years. The radio station, currently known as 93.1 Spartan Radio, has had several different podcasts throughout the years such as the obviously known "Daily Bulletin" and "Morning Drive." However, there is a new podcast coming to air quite soon, called "To Better Know a Spartan." This podcast name may sound familiar to fans of the Colbert Report and their segment: To Better Know a District. This segment served as the inspiration of this clever new podcast led by Senior DJs Austin Smith and Andrew Stites – also known as DJ Mayo and DJ Stitey Whitey. "I've always loved the Colbert Report and this podcast idea totally clicked earlier this year after my first interview with the new principal, Bluffer/ Ceighlee Fennel Tessa Hyde is broadcasting on air live during 6th period in the Radio Room . Mr. Fisher," said Senior DJ, Austin Smith. Austin continued explaining how he and his partner, Andrew Stites, decided to keep this interview segment alive after their interview with the principal. The ideas are moderately similar. However, unlike the Colbert Report, these two Senior DJs host interviews with teachers, coaches, school administration, and prominent students from Red Bluff High School. These interviews are quite brief and informative yet hold a comedic value in the latter part of the interview, which is filled with humorous questions. These interviews are a nice, corky way to further understand important people on our campus. "So far, I have really enjoyed interviewing these important people around our campus. It's a neat experience to simply sit down and talk and joke with these adults and students. I definitely enjoy my work." said Senior DJ, Andrew Stites. The Spartan Radio Station will start airing "To Better Know a Spartan" during the bottom half of the hour during school hours. But regardless, remember to tune into 93.1 Spartan Radio and listen to what the radio station offers. Dave's Tractor Incoprorated has donated a whole set of team shirts to Cross Country two times in a row. Mr. Hendricks, the cross country coach, approached Rob McFarlem, the sales manager for Dave's Tractor Inc., with a request for saftey shirts. Mr. Hendricks explains the need for saftey shirts, "The safety shirts are obviously important because we are are required to have them." After a while, a whole set of neon-colored saftey shirts showed up for the team, free of charge. This year, Mr. Hendricks insisted that he pay for another set of saftey shirts. Despite this, Mr. McFar- len sent new shirts, free of charge. Mr. Hendricks also talked about another benefit of having the neon saftey shirts, "They make the team identifiable at school and while they are running. So, when they are seen running around town or other places, people can tell they are part of a team. The neon definetly helps the kids be more visible as well." The cross country team would like to thank Dave's Tractor for their contributions and their new safety shirts!
