The Wauwatosa-based maker of lawn and garden equipment and small engines reported a loss of $19.3 million, or 41 cents a share, compared with a loss of $16.5 million, or 35 cents, a year earlier, according to a company statement. Included in the loss for the quarter were pretax restructuring charges of $3.6 million. Included in the loss for the year-ago quarter were pretax charges of $5.1 million, which were also related to restricting actions. Excluding these items, the loss for first quarter 2014 was $16.5 million, or 35 cents a share, compared with a loss of $13.2 million, or 28 cents, a year earlier. For the three months ended Sept. 30, revenue rose 2.7 percent to $317.3 million from $309 million, with sales increases in engines and lawn and garden products. A.O. MGIC profits surge in 3Q after huge loss last year MILWAUKEE – The financial results released last week by MGIC Investment Corporation showed a stark difference between this year's third quarter compared to the third quarter last year when the company reported a net loss of $246.9 million. For the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2013, MGIC had a net income of $12.1 million. Diluted earnings per share was $0.04 for the quarter ending Sept. 30, compared to diluted loss per share of $1.22 for the same quarter a year ago, according to the company MGIC's net loss so far this year . has also decreased. For the first nine months of 2013, the net loss is $48.4 million, which is less than the net loss of $540.4 million for the same period last year. Total revenues for the third quarter were $254.4 million, compared with $306.2 million in the third quarter last year. U.S. Bancorp also reported $2.8 billion of lines related to new credit card accounts for the third quarter and $22.5 billion of mortgage and other retail loan originations.
