The Yellow Checker Star Transportation taxi company donated $5,000 to the family of Metro Officer David Vanbuskirk, who died in July during a search and rescue operation. Marquis Aurbach Coffing held a community blood drive with United Blood Services. The law firm provided donors with meals, free tickets to Fright Dome at Circus Circus and a T-shirt. Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, which provides medical care to the uninsured, received $10,000 from the American Medical Association Foundation. Money will go toward VMSN's Diabetes Prevention, Treatment and Education Program. The Nevada Broadcasters Foundation raised $40,000 for the Tony and Linda Bonnici Broadcasters Scholarship Program during an auction at the Nevada Broadcasters Association's 18th annual Hall of Fame Gala at Red Rock Resort. More than 600 people attended. The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Foundation received $50,000 from AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah. Allegiant Air employees donated more than 625 backpacks filled with school supplies to Communities In Schools of Nevada. Allegiant workers also tutor and mentor Clark County students. Bank of America awarded $160,000 to 12 local nonprofits that support community development. Recipients include Community Services of Nevada-CSN, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Southern Nevada, Discovery Children's Museum, Housing for Nevada, Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Nevada HAND, Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada, Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association, Women's Development Center, United Way of Southern Nevada, Nevada Public Radio and Habitat for Humanity. Easter Seals Nevada, which serves Nevadans with disabilities, received a $20,760 grant from the MGM Resorts Foundation to strengthen its employment programs and train clients for jobs. Comedy-magician Mac King partnered with Grimaldi's Pizzeria and the Las Vegas 51s to collect books for students in at-risk schools. More than 1,000 books were collected for Clark County READS. People who donated three or more received a pair of tickets to King's show. In addition, Grimaldi's raised $70,000 for the Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign with a special coupon program. City National Bank collected more than 41,000 school supplies during its 4th annual Back-to-School Supplies Drive. The bank donated the supplies to 25 elementary schools and a nonprofit group. MJ Christensen hosted a "Diamond Dig" at its Henderson store to benefit Dress for Success Southern Nevada. Guests bought scoops from a special sand box filled with gemstones and prizes. Clark County Firefighters Local 1908 donated $9,500 to USO Las Vegas. Bucca di Beppo, Patty New, the Salvation Army, Fresh & Ready Foods, Sam's Club, Art Starts Here and Insurance Concepts of Nevada donated goods and services to the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada for its "Urban Campout," a free, day camp for girls whose camp sessions were canceled due to the Carpenter 1 fire at Mt. The company matched the donation. The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood hosted a suit drive with the United Way of Southern Nevada Women's Leadership Council. The program aims to help women prepare for careers and gain confidence to succeed in the workplace. Sky Zone Las Vegas, an indoor trampoline center, sold special-edition pink SkySocks to raise money for Susan G. Komen of Southern Nevada. In addition, Winder Farms, a home delivery grocery company, donated a portion of proceeds from its strawberry milk sales to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Aliante casino-hotel partnered with the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada by hosting 10 patients for a VIP spa day at re:lax spa, dinner at MRKT Sea & Land and an overnight stay. The Galaxy Green Valley Luxury+ Theatre hosted a food drive for Three Square Food Bank. 3 Martini Lunch Advertising and Design has donated graphic design services to Boys Town of Nevada since 2011, helping with events such as the Journey of Hope Gala and this year's inaugural Golf and Glamour Classic. Friends of the Israel Defense Forces honored local residents Arlene and Jerome L. Blunt for their commitment to Israel and its soldiers. Children's furniture manufacturer Delta Children donated 200 portable cribs, worth $30,000, to Baby's Bounty to promote safe sleep practices. Baby's Bounty will distribute the cribs to low-income families. Alexis DeJoria Racing partnered with the Nevada Health Centers to provide free mammograms to female race fans at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth received two refurbished vehicles from the National Auto Body Council. The council's Recycled Rides program pairs insurance companies, collision repair shops and parts suppliers to fix and donate vehicles to nonprofit groups. Toyota Financial Savings Bank partnered with Toyota Motor Sales to donate a new Toyota Sienna to Nevada HAND, which provides affordable housing and support to low-income people and seniors, many of who are in wheelchairs.
