September 27, 2013 Page 5 Sports C.C. team bonds and builds camaraderie Garrett Ward Staff Writer New faces and just as much fun as last year. Runners of all ages have enjoyed the comradery thus far perhaps more than the tiring miles that they have ran. According to some early season statistics recorded, so the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams have ran an average of ninety miles for a grand total of thirty-seven hours thus far. On paper these numbers may come off as frightening and painful; however, the runners hardly complain and find ways to enjoy their tiring work. "I love travelling to other schools and racing at other school's courses. The overnight trips are even more fun," says senior, Aza Bravo. This last Wednesday at Las Plumas, the Spartans and Lady Spartans both did extremely well. Aza Bravo finished first for the Varsity boys. Nicole Renfroe and Adrienne Hinkston finished first and second for the Lady Spartans. The Spartans have already travelled quite a bit this season. The furthest meet so far has been at the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. However, some of the best meets are yet to come for the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. There has been quite the increase of underclassmen in Cross Country this year. In freshman alone, there are over a dozen new runners which is a positive sign for the future generations of varsity competitors. "It is nice to see all the new faces come out for the team this year," "We are all definitely looking for- ward to the Clam Beach run next weekend."- Aza Bravo says Aza Bravo. When asked which meet is the most anticipated yet to come, Aza Bravo replied with, "We are all definitely looking forward to the Clam Beach run in a few weeks." He explained how camping and running on the beach are some of his favorite Cross Country experiences in years past. Some of the runners even go barefoot during the race for a more exhilerating experience. Bravo is sure that this year will live up to the previous year's experiences. Bravo has led the Varsity boys so far this season having a very positive impact on the overall team during practices and races. Bravo is motivated to finish off his senior season strong and possibly compete for a league title. The team has already completed half its meets this year and their next meet will be at Clam Beach next Saturday on October 6. League starts this weekend and the team will have meets at schools such as Foothill and West Valley in the weeks to come. Football preps for big game tonight The Varsity boys football team won their last game, making them still undefeated at three wins and zero losses. The last game was one of the biggest games of the season where the Spartans played long time rival, the Corning Cardinals. For the past year the Tehama County Shootout trophy has belonged to Red Bluff and has yet again for the two years straight it comes back to stay in Red Bluff for another year. " We were pretty pumped after that big win and are going to use our energy for our next big game against Enterprise," said junior Dale Danis. But the team will face a team that will truly test the teams offense and defense. Enterprise High School, another undefeated team, which will probably be one of the toughest challenges for the Spartans to overcome this season. "This game will definitely be a challenge, but we have been practicing this week really hard this week and we tend to play hard Friday," said senior Zach Dittner. The team will play Enterprise tonight at 7:30 at home. Story by: Ryan Fisher Courtesy/ Cynthia Gonzales The Red Bluff High Schools varsity football team during the Tehama County Shootout last Friday night against long time rival, the Corning Cardinals. The junior varsity football team has lost two games in a row with another loss against Corning High School's J.V. team. Today the team will play Enterprise High School's junior varsity team. With a record of 0 wins 2 losses and 1 tie the season is starting off poorly. But when the first game was played against Oroville, the team came out with an undecided decision which left with their first game as a tie. The next game they played was against the Anderson Cubs and they lost 41-6. Then against rivals Corning High School they were shutout 29-0. "We had some communication issues in the past games, and we will do our best against Enterprise this Friday," said sophomore Dylan Weir. Weir then added that the team has linemen who have never played line before, but I feel they will be ready. "We had alot of mental issue and offensive problems against Corning", said Deonte Antolin. The J.V. team will play Enterprise today at home at 5:30. Story by: Ryan Fisher Frosh volleyball looks forward to tournament this weekend Ryan Fisher Sports Editor The freshman volleyball team has been going very well this season. They have played one tournament so far this season and will play another one at Foothill High School this coming weekend. "I feel like we will do very well, our last tournament we played at was at Los Molinos and we played smaller schools but harder teams and we did very well," said Coach Alle. "We will do pretty well at this tournament fundamentally and I think we are ready," said freshman Emily Tatrum. But with all the tournaments the girls first home game is October 8 and will be playing against West Valley at West Valley. "The tournaments have been great for us and have been giving us much needed game time so far," said Alle. Coach Alle is having her debut as a Red Bluff High School volleyball coach, but already has been accepted by her players. "She is a very good coach and has helped us with learning positions better," said Tatrum. Alle has been coaching for four years and came from Los Molinos, but has been playing volleyball for nine years and said she was happy to be a coach here. But with all the successes the season has brought the girls have do have some troubles. "We lack a hard bonding team which is expected with freshman coming from a whole bunch of different schools, but I hope that we can be closer by the end of the season," said Alle. The girls play their next match this weekend at a tournament in Foothill . Dwight's Sports Corner Mr. Evans, beloved retired Bluffer adviser, was born and raised in the Bay Area and, because of this, was an avid fan of the Giants and especially the 49ers. This section is dedicated to Mr. Evans and his two favorite sports team to keep The San Francisco Giants have finally gotten out of last place but are completely out of getting into the playoffs for this year. This year was filled with a lot of rebuilding and injuries. The 49ers are now onto to week four with losing the last two games against the Seatle Seahawks(3-0) and the Indianapolis Colts(2-1) . By the time this was updated the 49ers will have played the St. Louis Rams yesterday. Sports Update/Ryan Fisher
