Liver Mush Festival Sat., Oct. 21 It's that time again where people gather from near and far to enjoy the annual Mush, Music & Mutts: NC Liver Mush Festival! This festival began in 1985 and has grown and transformed since then into a multifaceted event which has become a big draw for Shelby. 2019 and 2022 had estimated attendance of 10,000 – 15,000 based on mobile analytics data and at- tendee surveys with about 10-15% of those visitors com- ing from more than 50 miles away. The 2023 Festival is Sat- urday, October 21st from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm and will be in Uptown Shelby around the historic court square. Cleveland County Tourism, RollOver Pets and the City of Shelby all partner to bring several special elements. Since liver mush is a micro- regional food with deep roots, as are the music traditions of Cleveland County, the focus is on celebrating and high- lighting these elements to our community and beyond. RollOver Pets added the very popular Pet Festival in 2010 which continues to be a big hit and draw dogs and their own- ers from near and far. Guests can also enjoy a Pet Costume Parade, Pet Costume Con- test, Dynamo Dogs and many pet themed vendors and ser- vices. Well behaved dogs and their owners are welcome. Proof of rabies vaccinations is required. The North Carolina Depart- ment of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDCR) des- ignated 2023 as NC Year of the Trail. NCDCR selected Shelby as one of 10 communi- ties to be recognized for their trail system and ongoing ef- forts to enhance recreational resources in the community. The City of Shelby has planned a special weekend of events called Shelby Trail Days Event, October 20-22. They have partnered with the NC Liver Mush Fes- tival to host their ribbon cutting for the Carolina Har- mony Trail on October 21st during the festival! Combined with all of the regular and exciting as- pects of our Liver Mush Festival, this is going to be one for the TWO LIVER MUSH PRODUCERS WILL BE REPRESENTED AT THE FESTIVAL– Mack's Liver Mush and their staff and volunteers will again be preparing liver mush sand- wiches all day long. In addition, Frank Corriher's liver mush will be represented by the Shelby Noon Rotary Club who will prepare liver mush sandwiches, as well as a specialty item called a papusa. THE BISCUIT EATERS, a family bluegrass band from Surry County will perform at 11:30. There will be many things to do with your furry friends in the Pet Zone, presented by RollOver Pets, which includes: all day Paw Painting, 3 perfor- mances by crowd favorite, Dynamo Dogs, Pet Pa- rade, Pet Costume Contest, Musical Sit, a Shelby PD Canine Demo and many vendors within the Pet Zone. There will be lots of fun for the kids! Activities include: lawn games, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, fall themed photo opportunities, Ross "The Balloon Guy" creating balloon art, the Poetry Fox, and pumpkin painting presented by HomeTrust Bank and Central UMC Shelby. NC Musician Sydney Lett will perform at the festival. Bring your chair and plan to stay awhile. There is great music all day long from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, across 2 stages, The Carolina Harmony Trail Stage near the Farm- ers Market and the Main Stage, presented by Albemarle at the intersection of Washington and Marion Streets.
