EARLY BIRD TICKETS UNTIL SEPT. 27TH FREE SHOWS WITH ADMISSION Big turnout for Third Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation lunch Borders, Elizabeth Baptist Church show appreciation to Cleveland County law enforcement officers, staff, and ancillary personnel, with luncheon by MICHAEL E. POWELL CF Media michael@cfmedia.info Steve Borders is always glad when a plan comes together, and this one has been coming together nicely now for the past three years in a row. What plan is that? To show appreciation to Cleveland County law enforcement officers, staff, and ancillary personnel and how much they are cared for and to serve them a good, old fashioned hot dog lunch with all the fixin's, on top of everything. On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Third An- nual Law Enforcement Appreciation lun- cheon took place at Borders' farm a few miles outside of Waco. The bottom line was that, once again, Steve and his fam- ily, and a whole host of Elizabeth Baptist Church sponsors and volunteers, got to- gether, fired up the grill, and set about roasting and grilling some outstanding hot dogs, while the various officers and their peers arrived, all ready for a great lunch. Steve said he and his wife, Cindy, es- timated they had between 115 to 120 law enforcement officials and related folks come by for the event. "We thought everything went well, in fact, it all went great!" he said. "This is our third year doing this and we hope to con- tinue it as long as the Lord lets us do so. We had good weather, as well as more volunteers this year. We also had more carry-out meals this time, serving about 110," he added. Elizabeth Baptist Church Pastor, Dr. Rit Varriale, said their church sponsored the luncheon, adding it was their third year doing so. "We love doing this,' said Pastor Rit, adding, "We love showing our apprecia- tion for our law enforcement community. They always put their lives on the line every day. We want to say to them that is noticed. Your community cares. Your community prays for you, and your com- munity has your back." Cleveland County Schools had three representatives at this year's luncheon; Executive Director of Administrative Ser- vices, Rodney Borders; Public Information Officer and Safety director Greg Shull; and Assistant School Superintendent, Brian Hunnell. All three men said they were glad they came and enjoyed the food and fel- lowship. Powell/CF Media) Three of the cooks, hard at work on getting the hot dogs ready for the Third Annual Law Enforcement Luncheon, held on Sept. 12 at the Steve and Cindy Borders Family Farm, outside of Waco. They are (L to R): Dickie Haynes, Jim Hollingsworth, and Jamie Jones. The Kings Mountain Police Department was well-represented at the luncheon. Hav- ing a great time and enjoying lunch were Asst. Chief Chris Moore, Laura Childers (CID Administrative Assistant and Evidence Tech), Patrol Officer Angie Moore, Capt. Buddy Black, and Sgt. J.R. Bryant.
