Baratunde Thurston from "America Outdoors with Baratunde Thurston" This week's Best bets By Michelle Rose TV Media Off the list: Actress Alexa Davalos ("The Man in the High Castle") will not be returning as a series regular for Season 5 of "FBI: Most Wanted," as first reported by Deadline. Through two seasons of the CBS procedural, Davalos played the role of FBI Special Agent Kristin Gaines, a former Naval Intelligence Officer and member of the FBI's Fugitive Task Force — "an elite unit that relentlessly pursues and captures the notori- ous criminals on the bureau's Most Wanted list" (per CBS). She joined the series at the start of Season 3, which was marked by cast changeovers: Kellan Lutz ("Twilight," 2008), who starred as Kenny Crosby, was written off the show in the season premiere; and Julian McMahon ("Nip/Tuck"), who played squad leader Jess LaCroix, departed later that season; and Dylan McDermott's ("The Practice") character, Remy Scott, took over the leadership role. Miguel Gomez, who played Special Agent Ivan Ortiz, also left the series last year. Fast-forward to this year, and Season 4 didn't exactly provide an ending to Gaines' (Davalos) story arc — in fact, there wasn't the slightest hint of her charac- ter's exit in the May 23 finale. According to Deadline, the news that her character was being written out may have even caught Davalos by surprise: she was reportedly "informed by a producer on set that she won't be coming back after filming her last scene from Season 4 several months ago," though it seems this behind-the-scenes breakup is an amicable one. It's unclear when "FBI: Most Wanted" might return for a fifth season, which hasn't been writ- ten yet due to the WGA strike. In the meantime, fans are left won- dering whether Gaines' sudden absence will simply be explained in the premiere or if Davalos might return to wrap up her character's story arc.
