12 • Terre Haute Tribune-Star • August 13 - 19, 2023 "THE LINCOLN LAWYER: SEASON ONE" With the latter half of its second season now unfolding on Netflix, this drama series based on Michael Connelly's best seller – which also inspired a 2005 movie that starred Matthew McConaughey – casts Manuel Garia-Rulfo ("From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series") in the central role as Mickey Haller, a Los Angeles defense attorney who works out of a chauffeured Lincoln car, hence the saga's title. Neve Campbell ("Scream," "Party of Five") also stars as the first of his ex-wives, who also happens to be a prosecutor, thus giving her a different perspective frequently on the cases he handles. Guest stars include Elliott Gould, Bruce Davison, Jon Tenney ("The Closer") and Kadeem Hardison ("A Different World"). Christopher Gorham ("Covert Affairs") also was a first-season regular as a wealthy video-game developer and double-homicide suspect. *** (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray) "I didn't want to like it [the new 'Real Housewives of New York'], but I did like it because I like them [the new cast mem- bers]. They're a lot of fun, they're sexy and they're having a good time, and you can see that. The camera doesn't lie, and when people are having a good time, you can really see it." - Luan- na de Lesseps, during an appear- ance on E! News "Elvis asked me, 'What happens if I bomb?' I said, 'Elvis, you'll still be remembered for your movies and all your early hit records. ... If it's [the '68 Comeback Special] successful, every door that was closed to you will reopen.' Which is exactly what hap- pened." - Director Steve Binder, in an interview with Vanity Fair "Wanda [Sykes] always says laughter is the best medicine and it really is. I feel that's one of the reasons why comedy will always have a place and a role in the lexicon of content because people need that and want to see themselves. In a way, it holds up a wonder- ful mirror and I love that." - Kim Fields of "The Upshaws," in an interview with BET.com BY JAY BOBBIN Family Viewing Ratings AS Adult situations P Profanity V Violence N Nudity GV Graphic Violence "NEFARIOUS" A psychiatrist (played by Jordan Belfi) fac- es a major challenge in an incarcerated serial killer (Sean Patrick Flanery) who calls himself "Nefarious" in this intense melodrama. The inmate prompted a predecessor of the doctor to commit suicide after a prison interview, and he is slated to be executed within hours unless he is declared mentally incompetent … but Nefarious throws down a gauntlet to the newcomer quickly, claiming to be an oth - erworldly demon able to control the actions of others, and promising his questioner that the latter will commit several killings before the day is done. Another notable cast mem - ber (portraying himself here) is Glenn Beck, the political commentator who now appears on his own Internet-driven network. *** (R: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, Digital and On Demand) "BABYLON 5: THE ROAD HOME" The science-fiction franchise that yielded a popular syndicated series lives on with this direct-to-video movie sequel, which uses ani- mation (for the first time with this saga) and the voices of some of the original cast members to advance the overall story, "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski wrote the screenplay that sends former space-station commander John Sheridan – voiced by original portrayer Bruce Boxleitner – through a series of time periods, giving him the need for the titular "road home" as he has unexpected encounters with people from his past and faces large questions about the universe in general. Claudia Christian, Peter Jurasik, Bill Mumy and Tracy Scoggins also return to speak the words in the roles they es- tablished earlier, with Phil LaMarr ("MAD TV") among new additions. *** (PG-13: V) (Also available on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, Digital and On Demand) "ROMAN HOLIDAY" The movie that made Audrey Hepburn a star, and an Oscar-winning one at that, makes its debut in the 4K Ultra HD format to mark the film's 70th anniversary. Filmed on location, the William Wyler-directed comedy casts the ac- tress as a princess who chafes under a packed schedule and constant monitoring, prompting her to go AWOL and see Rome on her own … but she crosses paths with a reporter (Gregory Peck) who doesn't recognize her at first. Once he does, he also tries to conceal his true identity in the hope of getting an exclusive story and photos, helped by a cameraman friend (Eddie Albert). The Colosseum and Trevi Fountain are among the famous sites seen in the course of the travelogue-within-the-film, which also earned Academy Awards for its story and costume design. Though many fans couldn't imagine this picture without the particular magic that Peck and Hepburn brought to it, Cary Grant and Eliz- abeth Taylor were among those who had been considered for it earlier. **** (Not rated: AS) "CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANT" Some familiar faces turn up in this espio- nage drama casting Dominic Purcell ("Prison Break") and Nick Stahl as police-detective partners looking for a cop killer while they also try to put an end to an alarming number of crack cases. A junkie gives them valuable information, but one of the cops then tries to benefit personally by making the drug user a party in a potentially dangerous situation. Mel Gibson – who helped give Stahl his first major movie part 30 years ago as both director and star of "The Man Without a Face" – also has a prominent role as the investigators' boss. Kate Bosworth and daytime-serial veteran Jon Lindstrorn ("General Hospital," "As the World Turns'') also appear. (R: AS, N, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray and On Demand) "THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS" (4K ULTRA HD) (AUG. 22) "CSI: VEGAS" – SEASON TWO" (AUG. 22) "ELIZABETH" (4K ULTRA HD) (AUG. 22) "NCIS: THE TWENTIETH SEASON" (AUG. 22) Manuel Garcia- Rulfo in "The Lincoln Lawyer" Jack Skellington from "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
