12 • Terre Haute Tribune-Star • August 6 - 12, 2023 "1923: A YELLOWSTONE ORIGIN STORY – SEASON ONE" As it expanded once more, television's "Yellowstone" franchise looked to the past again, with this highly atmo- spheric Paramount+ show's title offering sufficient proof. Harrison Ford (in what then was his first continuing series part) and Oscar, Primetime Emmy and Tony winner Helen Mirren reunite (after their tandem work in the movie "The Mosquito Coast") as Jacob and Cara Dutton, who head another division of the family that also is central to "Yel- lowstone" and its first prequel show, "1883." The relatives face such plights as illness and drought as they try to edge into then-modern times. Filmed principally in Montana, the Taylor Sheridan-created series has a large cast that also includes James Badge Dale ("24") as John Dutton Sr., plus Timothy Dalton, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Ehle, Darren Mann ("Animal Kingdom"), Brandon Sklenar ("Mapplethorpe"), Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty ("Big Sky") and Jerome Flynn ("Game of Thrones"). A second season of the series is slated to be made, though the timing is uncertain given talent schedules and the effects of industry strikes. *** (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray) "I'm protective of all my characters. I always want them to be humans. With Magic [Johnson], I'm playing a character that I feel proud about. It's a per- son. And I get it. I understand where he's coming from. That's why I can't ever — I don't have any feelings about that [criticism from former Lakers stars]. I just got to do my job." - Quincy Isa- iah, in an interview with Esquire before the actors' strike, about his portrayal of Magic Johnson in "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynastry" "I get old but [being nominated for an Emmy] never gets old. I feel very grateful and lucky just to be alive and that I'll be invited to the big party." - Nathan Lane, in an interview with Deadline ahead of the actors' strike, about his Emmy nomination for Season 2 of "Only Murders in the Building" "I have the people that I look up to. I have the people that when I see them or I hear their voice, it gives me that boost of, 'I can do this, I know I can do this.' As much as I love doing it, I don't think of myself as that person. It's not until I hear those kinds of stories [from fans] that I'm reminded that I am that to other people." - Corbin Bleu, in an earlier interview with Peo- ple, about reprising his "High School Musical" role in the Disney+ series BY JAY BOBBIN Family Viewing Ratings AS Adult situations P Profanity V Violence N Nudity GV Graphic Violence "FAST X" The latest chapter of the enduringly popular and successful "The Fast and the Furious" franchise rais- es the stunt level again – which will be no surprise to fans of the vehicular action series – as hard-driv- ing Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his cohorts become targets for revenge. The person who has them in their sights (Jason Momoa) is the son of a drug lord whose organization they dismantled, and their new enemy is determined to get them where it hurts … which could translate into family ties being severed the hard way. The story truly has a world view, since its locations include London, Brazil, Antarctica and Rome. Oscar winners Brie Larson and Rita Moreno are notable additions to the cast, which also brings back Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brew- ster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Jason Statham, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron, among others. And there are some surprise appearances, too. DVD extras: two "making-of" documentaries; audio commentary by director Louis Leterrier; outtakes. *** (PG-13: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, Digital and On Demand) "ENTER THE DRAGON" Perhaps the greatest of martial-arts adventures – starring arguably the king of the genre, Bruce Lee, whose last completed film this was – makes its debut in the 4K Ultra HD format. The 1973 picture marries a Hollywood budget (other examples were done much more cheaply) to a spy tale as Lee plays a physical-prowess instructor recruited to gain evidence against a drug lord (Shih Kien) during a tournament on the latter's private island. John Saxon, who already was proficient in judo and karate (though his role originally was intended for Rod Taylor), and Jim Kelly also star as entrants in the contest … and if you don't blink, you might spot then-future star Jackie Chan as a number of different henchmen in fight sequences. Featuring Ahna Capri as well, this immediately became the standard by which all other films of its type were measured, but sadly, Lee didn't live to see that: He died one month before its release. This disc also includes the "Spe- cial Edition" of the movie that adds there minutes to it. *** (R: AS, P, V) "MASTERPIECE: ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL, SEASONS 1-3" A fourth season of the latest incarnation of the admirably genteel British drama, based on veterinarian James Herriot's autobiographical best sellers, has been ordered by PBS and England's Channel 5. In the meantime, this set includes the most recent season and the two preceding ones. Season 3 encompasses big developments for the central characters as the 1930s end, and that's certainly the case for English veterinarian Herriot (the pen name of James Alfred Wight, who's still played by Nicholas Ralph), since Helen Alderson (Rachel Shenton) is about to make him a married man … which also means major changes for her, since she's been used to living with her father and sister. The Farnon family sees differences as well, as Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) enters the veterinary profession and Siegfried (Samuel West) comes to terms with his painful memories of World War I duty. Anna Madeley also is back as housekeeper Mrs. Hall, and Patricia Hodge continues as Her- riot's demanding client Mrs. Pumphrey, whom the late Diana Rigg played in the drama's first year. *** (Not rated: AS) "LEAVE" Trying to solve the mystery of her past, a young woman finds an otherworldly force trying to ward her off from discovering the truth in this moody Norwegian thriller that first had U.S. exhibition via the streaming service Shudder. Alicia von Rittberg plays the heroine, who was left in a cemetery as a baby, wrapped in a cloth embroidered with Satanic references. Two decades later, she wants to know the nature of where she came from, but an oppos- ing party that may not be human doesn't want her to have that information – whatever measures must be taken to prevent that. The cast also includes Herman Tommeraas and Ellen Dorrit Petersen. *** (Not rated: AS, V) "NEFARIOUS" (AUG. 15) "BABYLON 5: THE ROAD HOME" (AUG. 15) "THE LINCOLN LAWYER: SEASON ONE" (AUG. 15) "ROMAN HOLIDAY" (4K ULTRA HD) (AUG. 15) "THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS" (4K ULTRA HD) (AUG. 22) "THE FLASH" (AUG. 29) Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in "1923" Audrey Hepburn and George Peck in "Roman Holiday"
