12|Diversity Rules Magazine | Aug 2023 Workplace - Con't from page 11 Building Financial Resilience Although gay and lesbian couples may face many fi- nancial obstacles, there are methods they can use to develop financial resilience. First and foremost, it's essen al to establish honest and open discussions regarding money. As partners, talking about your fi- nances can help you find areas for growth and lessen your financial stress. Second, ge ng expert advice from financial planners who have experience with LGBTQ-specific financial issues can be very helpful. These professionals can assist with developing asset- building methods, planning for re rement, and nav- iga ng difficult legal issues. These steps are key to building a strong future together. Advocacy and Policy Change Advocacy and policy change are essen al in address- ing the financial difficul es queer couples confront. Financial stability can significantly increase as a re- sult of ac vism and lobbying efforts to win equal rights and protec ons for LGBTQ people. To create a more equitable financial environment for same- sex partners, it is crucial to encourage lawmakers to enact thorough an -discrimina on legisla on, fight for equal access to marriage and healthcare benefits, and press for workplace regula ons that safeguard LGBTQ employees. In conclusion, as a result of a mul tude of issues, gay and lesbian couples o en struggle financially. These difficul es may significantly affect their financial security and general well-being. Society may move toward establishing a more inclusive and egalitar- ian financial environment for all couples, regardless of their sexual orienta on, by addressing these con- cerns through legal change, intersec onal support, financial planning, and lobbying. South Africa - Con't from page 9 and watching the sunset over the mountains. Some- thing so small meant so much to all of us and made for an experience we won't soon forget. Guests at Shamwari can also opt to visit the Sham- wari Wildlife Rehabilita on Centre, which helps to rehabilitate and care for sick, injured, abandoned, or orphaned animals. Once these animals have been nursed back to health, they are released back into their natural habitat. It's not an interac ve visit, but an informa ve and educa onal experience, to give animals the best chance at a successful release. The Wildlife Rehabili- ta on Centre at Shamwari is a registered facility and as such, animals in need come from all over the East- ern Cape. The primary goal is to ul mately return all the animals back to the wild once they are healed. As red as we all were a er our two-week adventure through South Africa, we didn't want to leave Sham- wari. It is a truly majes c place that is well worth the visit. I vowed to return and share these memories with other friends and family. Enjoy the Journey
