Entertainment Now | June 10 - 16, 2023 Sunday morning | 7 By Michelle Rose TV Media More than country: Season 23's mega mentor, country star Reba McEntire ("The Greatest Man I Never Knew"), is extending her stay on "The Voice." The singer, who served as Bat- tle Advisor to Team Blake in 2011, has been tapped as the new judge for Season 24 of NBC's hit singing competition show. She confirmed it on Instagram, telling fans, "There's a new Coach in town. See you all this Fall!" Once the show returns in the fall, expect to find the country music icon to be seated in Blake Shelton's recently vacated red chair — although she's already gotten a feel for it, having slipped into the swiveling chair to tease Shelton during the live semifinals. For the show's first Shelton-less season, McEntire will be joined by returning coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan. Season 24 will be Stefani's sev- enth outing as a coach, while Horan made his debut this past season. Legend has served as a coach since Season 16, with a brief break for Season 23. In an interview with NBC Insid- er, McEntire was asked whether she had received any coaching advice from the departing coach. She jokingly answered, "You know what he told me? Lose my number. It's what he told me. He said, 'Just lose it. Don't call me, I'll call you. I will watch and if you need help, ask John [Legend].'" She went on to reassure fans that, like her predecessor, her mu- sical expertise isn't limited to the country music genre. "I got to ad- mit something," McEntire said. "I don't like categories, and I don't like to be corralled and fenced in. So I'm going to go with the talent, with the song and how they sing in the song. I'll know it from my gut feeling whether I want to turn the chair or not. Absolutely." 'Hawai'i' bound: "NCIS: Los Angeles" has ended its run, but series star LL Cool J (born James Todd Smith) isn't done with the NCIS universe just yet. His character, Sam Hanna, made a surprise appearance in the Season 2 finale of "NCIS: Hawai'i," in which he came to the aid of Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and Kate Whisper (Tori Anderson) after they came under fire in Venezuela. It has since been confirmed that the NCIS veteran will reprise his role in Season 3, too, as a recurring guest star.
