10 ENTERTAINMENT EXTRA By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "The Diplomat" - Season 1 Keri Russell ("The Americans") is keeping it cool in the midst of an international crisis in the new series "The Diplomat," premiering on Net- flix Thursday, April 20. The new U.S. Ambassador to the United King- dom, Kate Wyler (Russell) is great in a crisis, but her new high-profile job leaves her feeling like she's in over her head. While war is brewing on one continent and boiling over in another, Kate must adjust to her place in the spotlight while forming strategic alliances in London and diffusing an international incident before it can escalate further. All the while, she works behind the scenes to keep her marriage to Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell, "The Man in the High Castle"), a fellow career diplomat and political star, from falling apart. From creator and showrun- ner Debora Cahn ("Homeland"), "The Diplomat" is directed by Liza Johnson ("Physical") and Simon Cellan Jones ("Ballers"). David Gyasi ("Interstellar," 2014), Ali Ahn ("Billions"), Rory Kinnear ("The Imitation Game," 2014) and Ato Es- sandoh ("Chicago Med") also star. "How to Get Rich" - Season 1 With fluctuating interest rates, cryptocurrencies, failing banks and a fickle stock market, navigating the finance world is a daunting one. In the new series "How to Get Rich," premiering on Netflix Tuesday, April 18, finance expert Ramit Sethi is helping everyday people learn how to live their rich- est lives. The author of the 2009 book "I Will Teach You to be Rich" and the podcast of the same name, Sethi is on a mission to make the seemingly mystical world of invest- ment and finance management as straightforward as he can. Across the series' first eight episodes, Sethi encourages his students, each completely out of their depth with finance management, to spend extravagantly on the things they love and cut back on the things they don't, to live their richest lives possible. All the while, he guides them through common, often overwhelming issues — like credit card debt, retirement funds, buying a house and even multi-level mar- keting schemes — while providing them (and the audience) with the tools to take control of their finan- cial futures. WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "Dead Ringers" - Season 1 Prime Video's modern take on David Cronenberg's 1988 thriller, "Dead Ringers," makes its streaming debut Friday, April 21. Rachel Weisz ("The Constant Gardener," 2005) stars in the six-episode drama as both El- liot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything from drugs and lovers to their unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes to reach their goals. As they push the bound- aries of medical ethics in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women's health care to the forefront, the Mantle twins take on New York City and the island of Manhattan as they look to change the way women give birth. Britne Oldford ("The Umbrella Academy"), Poppy Liu ("Hacks"), Michael Cher- nus ("Severance"), Jennifer Ehle ("Zero Dark Thirty," 2012) and Em- ily Meade ("The Deuce") are also part of the series' ensemble cast. Di- rected by Sean Durkin ("The Nest," 2020), Karena Evans ("Drake: Nice For What," 2018), Lauren Wolkstein ("Queen Sugar") and Karyn Kusa- ma ("Yellowjackets"), the series is executive produced by Weisz, Dur- kin, series creator Alice Birch ("Nor- mal People"), Stacy O'Neil ("Sam & Kate," 2022), Sue Naegle ("Pam & Tommy"), Ali Krug ("The Stair- case"), Erica Kay ("Pose"), Anne Carey ("The American," 2010), James G. Robinson (The Last of the Mohicans," 1992), David Robinson ("Man of the Year," 2006), Megan Ellison ("Her," 2013) and Barbara Wall ("The Exorcist"). "Judy Blume Forever" (2023) Acclaimed children's author Judy Blume has reached generations of children with her books, from chil- dren's hits such as "Superfudge" to the young adult classic "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret." The new documentary "Judy Blume Forever," premiering Friday, April 21, on Prime Video, explores the life, illustrious career and lasting cultural impact of Bloom and her books. As the author shares her own coming-of-age story — from fearful, imaginative child to story- telling pioneer — the film looks at how her radical honesty, including her frankness about puberty and sex, made Blume a beloved literary figure to so many, but it also saw her books condemned and banned by others. Now 85 years old, Blume is still fighting back against censor- ship, while her work continues to change the lives of young people throughout the world and helps them understand themselves, their sexuality and what it means to grow up. Directed by Davina Pardo ("Minka," 2011) and Leah Wolchok ("Very Semi-Serious," 2015), "Judy Blume Forever" comes from execu- tive producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard (both of "Arrested Devel- opment" and "A Beautiful Mind," 2001) and Meredith Kaulfers ("Light & Magic"). WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "Ghosted" (2023) Get on the case with the new ac- tion rom-com "Ghosted" when it premieres on Apple TV+ Friday, April 21. All it takes is one meet- ing for ordinary, salt-of-the-earth Cole (Chris Evans, "The Avengers," 2012) to fall head over heels for Sa- die (Ana de Armas, "Blade Runner 2049," 2017). But, before they can even make it to their second date, Cole learns a shocking secret: his enigmatic new love interest is a se- cret agent. Swept up into a danger- ous new world, Cole and Sadie are pulled away on an international ad- venture to save the world. From di- rector Dexter Fletcher ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," 1998), "Ghosted" features a screenplay by "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and "Deadpool" (2016) writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The film also stars Adrian Brody ("The French Dispatch," 2021), Mike Moh ("Empire"), Amy Sedaris ("The Mandalorian"), Tim Blake Nelson ("O Brother, Where Art Thou?," 2000) and Tate Dono- van ("Argo," 2012). WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Quasi" (2023) A new twist on Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" comes to Hulu Thursday, April 20, in the form of the historical satire film "Quasi," but the only thing it has in common with the original story is the Quasimodo character. In the middle ages, a hapless hunchback named Quasi (Steve Lemme, "Tacoma FD") is searching for love and acceptance in a harsh world. However, when he earns a chance to change his life around, he quickly finds himself caught in the middle of a feud between the Pope (Paul Soter, "Super Troopers," 2001) and the king of France (Jay Chandrasekhar, "Beerfest," 2006). Directed by Kevin Heffernan ("Ta- coma FD") and written by Heffer- nan, Chandrasekhar, Lemme, Soter and Erik Stolhanske ("Club Dread," 2004), this outrageous comedy also stars Heffernan, Stolhanske, An- drianne Palicki ("The Orville") and Gabriel Hogan ("Tacoma FD").
