Gibson Southern FFA Setting Gold Standard By James Rae, Jr. editor@sgstartimes.com Fort Branch—Gibson Southern FFA recently had four students rank at the top for the State Proficiency Awards. All four of the member's applications made top 4 in the state in their respective category. Isaac Pohl won first place in Nursery Operations, Mylie Rexing took home second place in Ag Sales, Vann Rose got third place in Ag Processing and Ezra Pohl received fourth place in Ag Services. FFA Advisor, Jessie Schermerhorn-Mraz added, "To advance to state they had to first win first place at District. This year, Indiana had 406 applications submitted for evaluation at the State Level from 387 members representing 106 chapters. It is very rare to have all applications submitted by a school to state judging place in top 4 of their respective categories." "It was such a great honor getting this award with my fellow classmates. I wanted to inspire others to go after their dreams which is why I spent so many hours filling out this application. I learned so much from this experience and I look forward to seeing where everyone's career takes them," said Isaac Pohl. "My project, Mylie's Meals To-Go, has opened the door to numerous opportunities including a spot in a national magazine and new connections with people all over the country. I have developed marketing, customer service, and time management skills during the duration of my project. I am thankful for the opportunity and appreciate all of the support from my community," said Mylie Rexing. Ezra Pohl said, "I chose to do my proficiency award in the area of Ag Services specifically with soil sampling because without good soil sampling techniques, farmers wouldn't be as successful." Vann Rose added, "I'm glad to have been able to work through this profi- ciency award project for the last 3 years. With the help of my Ag program and teacher, I've been able to improve each year and gain a better understanding of the agricultural work experience." You can sense the pride, heart and dedication from all of these FFA members as they discuss their projects. Isaac, Mylie, Ezra and Vann should be very proud of their accomplishments and their State Proficiency Awards. All four FFA members are going places and the future of Gibson Southern FFA looks extremely bright! Congratulations to Isaac Pohl, Mylie Rexing, Ezra Pohl and Vann Rose on a job well done! Fort Branch Easter Egg Hunt By James Rae, Jr. editor@sgstartimes.com The Fort Branch Easter Egg Hunt was held in the Fort Branch Community Park on Saturday, April 8. The turn out was great and couldn't have asked for better weather! Families gathered in the park to enjoy this fun-filled event and kids were all set to find some eggs! "For 27 years, the Rosemeyer Agency has proudly hosted the Fort Branch Easter Egg Hunt, a cherished tradition for the community. When the Fort Branch Kiwanis Club disbanded in 1996, we were honored to take over the reins and continue this wonderful event. As we complete our merger with McGowan Insurance Group, we look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come. We're grateful for the opportu- nity to bring smiles to the faces of children and families in our community, and we're committed to ensuring that this event remains a highlight of the Easter season," said Adam Johnson of Rose- meyer Insurance Agency. Laura Happe from the Fort Branch Library added, "We are happy to be invited by the Rosemeyer Agency to participate in this traditional community event. This is our third year of involvement and it is great that the kids can see that employees from the library are in the community too."
