Boyd throws 2-hitter, Titan bats pound out 11 runs in 10-0 win over Harrison By Mike Sandifar Star-Times Sports drhoops25@gmail.com Junior Tanner Boyd pitched a two-hit shutout against visiting Evansville Harrison on Satur- day morning to give Gibson Southern a 10-0 non-conference victory in high school baseball play at Titan Field. The Titans scored in five of the six innings they went to the plate, scoring a single run in the bottom of the first frame, then coming back for another three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 advantage after two complete innings of play. Gibson Southern did not push a run across home plate in the third inning, but in the bottom of the fourth, the Titans doubled the score, plating four more runs to give the eventual winners an 8-0 lead. The hosts scored single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 10-0 in favor of Gibson Southern, and the game was "called" because of the Indiana High School Athletic Association "10 Run Rule," that rule being if after five full innings of play (or beyond) a team leads by 10 or more runs, the game is ended at the end of that inning. The Titans put 18 runners on base in the contest, eight on hits, eight via a walk, one by a hit by pitcher, and one on an error. "We had a great outing against Harrison," said Titan Coach Chris May after the game. "Tanner Boyd had good stuff on the mound, and our defense did a great job of giving him support in the field. "Our offense came to life today, as well—We really hit the ball well, and we worked the Evans- ville Harrison pitching staff for eight walks, giving us a lot of base runners out there today. "We are still striking out too much, something we must work on." Senior Reid and sophomore Brody Knowles each banged out a pair of hits in the game, with one of Knowles hits being a double, while senior Ethan Ziliak, Boyd, senior Tyler Martin, and sophomore Seth Parsons all had a hit for the Titans. Boyd's hit was a double, while Reid and Parsons each worked the Harrison pitchers for a pair of walks, Knowles, Ziliak, Boyd, senior Braydn Epperson, sophomore Grant Stinson, and senior Adam Thompson all received a free pass to first base off the Harrison pitching staff. Freshman Brayden Alldredge reached first base twice in the encounter, once on an error and the other time after being hit by the Harrison pitcher. Boyd struck out three Warriors in his six innings on the mound, and he walked just one to earn the win. The victory evened the Titans' season record at 4-4, including 1-1 in Pocket Athletic Confer- ence (PAC) play. The Titans are scheduled to play Boonville in a conference game set for 5 p.m. at Titan Field.
