Brainerd Dispatch • March 19 - 25, 2023 •19 "Swarm" - Season 1 Explore the darker side of celebrity culture with "Swarm," the new thriller series from "Atlanta's" Don- ald Glover and Janine Nabers, when it premieres Friday, March 17, on Prime Video. The story follows a young woman named Dre (Dominique Fishback, "The Hate U Give," 2018), who is completely and unhealthily ob- sessed with her favorite pop star. Soon, her infatuation with the star takes a dark turn. Executive produced by D. Glover, Nabers, Stephen Glover ("Atlanta"), Steve Prinz ("Paper Girls"), Michael Schaefer ("The North- man," 2022), Fam Udeorji ("Guava Island," 2019), Ibra Ake ("Atlanta") and Jamal Olori ("House Party," 2023), the series the series is written by D. Glover, Nabers, Karen Joseph Adcock ("The Bear") and former first daughter Malia Obama, in her screen writing debut. The series also stars Damson Idris ("Snowfall"), Chloe Bailey ("Grown-ish"), Leon ("City on a Hill"), Rory Culkin ("Signs," 2002), Karen Rodriguez ("The Big Leap"), Nirine S. Brown ("Ruthless"), Mezi Atwood ("Smile," 2022), Kiersey Clemons ("Dope," 2015), Paris Jackson ("American Horror Stories"), Christopher Avila ("Booksmart," 2019), Byron Bowers ("Honey Boy," 2019) and Rickey Thompson ("Foursome"). "Dom" - Season 2 Prime Video's Brazilian crime drama, "Dom," returns to the streamer with an action-packed new season Friday, March 17. Inspired by a true story, the series follows Pe- dro Dom (Gabriel Leone, "Dark Days"), who transforms from a normal, middle-class citizen in Rio de Janeiro to become the head of a dangerous crime organization in the early 2000s. In Season 2, Pedro is making headlines as the most wanted criminal in Rio. As the stakes get higher, the crimes get more dangerous and the police get closer to his every step, and Pedro has no choice but to impersonate someone else to survive. Created by Breno Silveira ("One Against All"), "Dom" is directed by Silveira and André Barros ("Trail of Lies"). The series also stars Flavio Tolezani ("The Good Side of Life!"), Fil- ipe Braganca ("Orphans of a Nation"), Isabella Santoni ("Pride and Passion"), Raquel Villar ("Cat's Cradle"), Laila Garin ("Rock Story"), Wilson Rabelo ("A Mother's Love"), Roberto Birindelli ("One Against All") and Digão Ribeiro ("Encantado's"). "Shadow and Bone" - Season 2 The stories from author Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse spring to life once more when Season 2 of the fantasy drama "Shadow and Bone" premieres Thursday, March 16, on Netflix. As the story picks back up, the protago- nist, Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li, "Last Night in Soho," 2021) is on the run — a beacon of hope to some and a suspected traitor to others. Alina is determined to bring down the Shadow Fold and save Ravka from ruin, but Gen. Kirigan (Ben Barnes, "The Punisher") has returned to finish what he started and, with an army of seemingly indestructible shadow monsters and fear- some new Grisha recruits, he's more dangerous than ever. To stand a chance at fighting back, Alina and Mal (Archie Renaux, "The Greatest Beer Run Ever," 2022) must rally their own allies and embark on a journey for two mythical creatures that can amplify Alina's pow- ers. Jose," 2017). "Sky High: The Series" - Season 1 This action crime saga takes a new turn when the sequel series to the 2020 Spanish film "Sky High" pre- mieres Friday, March 17, on Netflix. Sole's (Asia Ortega, "Valley of the Dead," 2020) life changes in an instant when her husband, Ángel (Miguel Herrán, "Money Heist"), the leader of a gang, dies. Instantly thrust into life as a young widow and single mother, and determined to make her own living, Sole joins up with a gang of thieves to stay out from under the thumb of her powerful father (Luis Tosar, "The Vault," 2021). Daniel Calparsoro ("The Warning," 2018) and Jorge Guerricaechevarria ("Celda 211," 2009), the original film's director and writer, return to helm the new series.
