Brad Pitt plays a problematic star who becomes the ticket to an aspiring craftsman's (Diego Calgary) entry into the movie business, with Margot Robbie as a fame-craving performer whose background spells trouble for her career. Co-stars in the sizable cast include Jean Smart, Max Minghella (as real-life movie mogul Irving Thalberg), Lukas Haas, Tobey Maguire (also an executive producer of the picture), Katherine Waterston, Eric Roberts and Olivia Wilde. The real Hollywood rewarded the result with Oscar nominations for costume design, production design and Justin Hurwitz's music score. DVD extras: three "making-of" documentaries; deleted and extended scenes. ››› (R: AS, N, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, Digital and On Demand) "STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS – SEASON ONE" Earlier versions of familiar characters – some of those variations, and actors, also seen in previous "Star Trek" series – are showcased in this Paramount+ show that unfolds in a period before James Kirk became the captain of the starship Enterprise. Anson Mount plays Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn portrays Number One, and Ethan Peck is Spock. Of course, they're among the crew members who fulfill the Gene Roddenberry-created mission to explore (as the title confirms) strange new worlds. Also on board are Jess Bush as Nurse Chapel and Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura. DVD extras: three "making-of" documentaries; audio commentary by Mount and executive producer, director and writer Akiva Goldsman; deleted scenes; outtakes. ››› (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray and Blu-ray Steelbook) "SERIOUSLY RED" Though she doesn't actually appear in the film, Dolly Parton plays a big part in this Australian comedy. She's imitated by a realtor (played by Krew Boylan, also the film's writer) who fully dedicates herself to impersonating the superstar after losing her job. And she's not the only one on that path, since other characters here define themselves by posing as Taylor Swift, Madonna, Elton John, George Michael and others. Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne are among familiar faces in the cast. DVD extra: audio commentary by director Gracie Otto. ››› (R: AS, N, P) (Also on Blu-ray, Digital and On Demand) "JOYRIDE" Since winning her Oscar for "The Favourite," Olivia Colman has maintained a busy career in both film and television, and this Irish comedy-drama is one of the most recent examples. She plays a woman who intends to give her newborn baby away, but the plan takes different turns – literally – when the taxi that she and her child are traveling in is stolen by a troubled teenager (Charlie Reid). She and the young man lock horns immediately, and as they embark on an odyssey that surprises them both, he proves to be a formidable challenger who forces her to re-examine her intentions. ››› (Not rated: AS, P) (Also on On Demand) "SWEET CAROLINA" One of Hallmark Channel's most popular stars, Lacey Chabert also was a writer and executive producer on this 2021 drama that she made for that outlet. In a sense, it casts her in the more adult position of the premise of her earlier series "Party of Five," since she plays a marketing executive who becomes a surrogate parent to her suddenly orphaned niece and nephew (Cassidy Nugent, Glen Gordon). It's a role she isn't ready for, since she has been focused mainly on her career ... and she also isn't prepared for the reunion she has with her high-school beau (Tyler Hynes). Gregory Harrison and Teryl Rothery also appear. ››› (Not rated: AS) "M3GAN" This modestly budgeted chiller became a significant box-office hit, guaranteeing the sequel that's now in the works. A young orphan (played by Violet McGraw) goes to live with her aunt (Allison Williams), a toy- company employee who secretly uses the firm's technology to develop the title robot doll, which develops a lethally independent personality ... making dismantling it all but impossible, since M3GAN (created through a combination of special effects and actor performance) acquires the ability to reboot on its own, becoming ever deadlier as it does. A scene of the humanoid dancing went viral, boosting the film's popularity that much more; Jenna Davis supplies the voice of M3GAN. ››› (PG-13 and unrated versions: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, Digital and On Demand) "I'm ready to take some breaths now." – Kennedy McMann, seen recently on "The Good Doctor" on ABC, about going from filming the final season of "Nancy Drew" to making the pilot for the proposed series "The Good Lawyer" " s K s G a t " t s "It was a very big hit in Britain but I don't remember it vividly or in any detail. It was something that was on a lot but I can remember mistily that everyone confesses on the stand and that's pretty much it." – Matthew Rhys of "Perry Mason" on HBO, on the original 1957-66 CBS series starring Raymond Burr " B i w a m c t M M o s "Anything new (in opera) is written for the people who are performing it, so you do have the opportunity to have something tailor-made ... where in older works, you're trying to fit into somebody else's shoes." – Renee Fleming, seen recently on "Great Performances at the Met: The Hours" on PBS " i w i o s . y s – s P T
