Joseph fell in love with the fami- ly's chickens when he was just two years old. according to his moth- er, casey O'Brien, Joseph looks forward to seeing his favorite hen every morning and finds ways to es- cape the house just to see her. The little boy loves all their chickens regardless of size or type, in fact, he isn't even intimidated by the family's large rooster. even though the family decided to pick up a few extra hens that look exactly the same as henrietta, as a precau- tion, Joseph knows which one is his favorite. When henrietta sees Joseph coming, she stops, sits, and moves her wings out so that he can easi- ly scoop her up and carry her to their destination. she often sits by him on the couch while he shares his snacks while watching T V. she especially enjoys strawberries, but will eat almost anything he offers. Occasionally both boy and hen will fall asleep snuggled together on the couch. henrietta has many adventures with Joseph, she has made several quick trips into town to pick up his siblings or a fast run for an errand. The hen seems to enjoy the air-con- ditioned or heated van, depending on the season, as she sits on his lap or his shoulder. The hen has been sledding this winter, and also sits on Joseph's lap down the slide or as he swings. according to his mother, the hen seems to have become accustomed to all of Joseph's adventures. When the hen is not with Joseph, she free-ranges with the other chickens but does not stray too far from the house. she sleeps in the WES holds Family STEM Night By Jill Hyneman correspondent news@pressdispatch.net Thursday, March 2, Winslow el- ementary school ( Wes), hosted Family sTeM (science, Technolo- gy, engineering and Mathematics) night.
