Premiering Friday, Feb. 24, the six-episode third season picks up 10 years after Season 2 with most of the crew from the Party Down catering team having moved on. But after a surprise reunion, the gang – including bartender Henry (Adam Scott), manager Ron (Ken Marino) and servers Constance (Jane Lynch), Roman (Martin Starr), Kyle (Ryan Hansen) and Lydia (Megan Mullally) – are soon back at it tending to the whims of oddball guests at random parties all over the Los Angeles area. The return of the series, which adds Jennifer Garner, Tyrel Jackson Williams and Zoe Chao to its Season 3 cast, comes 13 years after it was canceled by Starz amid favorable critical reviews but lackluster ratings. It also represents the latest in a trend of series reboots that have had varying degrees of success. Such as the following. "Murphy Brown": Three decades after it premiered, the CBS comedy returned in 2018 for an 11th and final season that picked up with Murphy (Candice Bergen), Corky (Faith Ford), Frank (Joe Regalbuto) and Miles (Grant Shaud) now working on "Murphy in the Morning" and combatting a very familiar enemy – the rise of misinformation and fake news. Mixed reviews and disappointing ratings followed for a series that earned a boatload of Emmys and Golden Globes during its initial 1988-98 run. "Mad About You": Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt reprised their roles as Manhattanites Paul and Jamie Buchman from the original 1992-99 NBC sitcom for a 12-episode limited run in 2019 on Spectrum. Though the eighth season brought back many of the supporting cast, it seemed to disregard the events of the Season 7 finale, in which a flash-forward told of how the Buchmans would fare in the intervening years. "Night Court": The jury – pardon the pun – is still out on the recent reboot of the well-regarded NBC workplace comedy, which returns only John Larroquette as prosecutor Dan Fielding from the original 1984-92 cast and stars Melissa Rauch ("The Big Bang Theory") in the role of Judge Abby Stone in place of her father Harry (played by the late Harry Anderson). BY GEORGE DICKIE Time to 'Party Down' again as Starz reboots cult comedy Ken Marino stars in a reboot of "Party Down," which opens its third season Friday on Starz.
