A very unique plant that gives off energy becomes a major part of their latest quest to locate and benefit new worlds, but a variety of unusual creatures po- tentially stands in the way of their achieving their aim. Gabrielle Union, Lucy Liu, frequent sci-fi talent Alan Tudyk ("Resident Alien") and Jaboukie Young-White also are in the voice cast. DVD extras: three "making-of" documentaries; deleted scenes; outtakes. ››› (PG: V) (Also on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, Digital and On Demand) "AMERICAN GIGOLO: SEASON ONE" It took a good number of years and some false starts, but the 1980 movie that helped cement Richard Gere's stardom finally yield- ed a Showtime series continuing the saga of escort-for-hire Julian Kay. Jon Bernthal ("The Walking Dead") assumes the part as Julian emerges from a prison sentence to try to re- sume whatever he can of his life as he knew it, encompassing his intense relationship with the privileged Michelle (Gretchen Mol). An even more significant casting switch involves the police-detective character Sunday, who continues to probe the crime that landed Ju- lian behind bars; played by Hector Elizondo in the original film, the role belongs to Rosie O'Donnell here. ››› (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray) "ON THE COME UP" Acclaimed actress Sanaa Lathan made her directing debut with this adaptation of Angie Thomas' novel, about a teenager (played by Jamila C. Gray) who has her heart set on becoming a rap star. She has initial success, but for reasons that are question- able ... forcing her to decide what to do to honor her musically inclined father's legacy properly. The screenplay is by Kay Oyegun, who made a mark as a writer-producer-di- rector on television's "This Is Us." Lathan also gives herself an acting role in the tale, with Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Epps and Method Man among additional cast mem- bers. The picture had a simultaneous release in theaters and on Paramount+. DVD extras: behind-the-scenes interviews; music video. ››› (PG-13: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray) "THERE THERE" The connections among several people de- velop and yield a variety of results over the course of writer-director Andrew Bujalski's ("Support the Girls") comedy-drama. Lili Taylor, Jason Schwartzman, Lennie James, Molly Gordon and Jon Natchez are among those in the ensemble cast as the diverse individuals – including two people who are newly involved romantically, an alcoholic and her sponsor, a teacher and the parent of a student, and an attorney and his client – deepen their respective personal ties. ››› (Not rated: AS, P) (Also on Digital and On Demand) "MARRY ME IN YOSEMITE" Extensive location filming in Yosemite Nation- al Park does much for this Hallmark Channel project, one of the most recent of the many that Cindy Busby has made for that outlet. The actress plays a photojournalist whose mission to capture new views of the site is helped by a tour guide (Tyler Harlow), who initially does his best to resist her charms while helping her prepare a book. The script also incorporates a considerable amount of Native American history; Busby has said that the cast and crew had to start their work days on the film quite early, to get the foot- age they needed before the tourist trade ar- rived. The movie is paired here with another Hallmark title, "Don't Forget I Love You," star- ring Emilie Ullerup ("Chesapeake Shores"). ››› (Not rated: AS) "THE FABELMANS" Steven Spielberg has earned great acclaim for his latest movie, currently up for seven Oscars (including best picture and best director) and inspired by his own youth and his early desire to become a filmmaker. Working again with co- writer Tony Kushner ("Lincoln"), he tells the tale of Sammy Fabelman (played by Gabriel LaPierre), who sees some hard truths about his parents (Michelle Williams, Paul Dano) and others close to him through the camera equipment he uses as the family relocates several times and endures a number of crises. Seth Rogen, Judd Hirsch (a standout here), Julia Butters ("American Housewife") and Jeannie Berlin ("The Heartbreak Kid") also are in the fine cast of the moving, involving project. In a particularly interesting piece of casting, David Lynch plays another celebrated director, John Ford. DVD extra: "making-of" documentary. ›››› (PG-13: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, Digital and On Demand) Michelle Williams "Early on it's pretty hard to ignore because there's quite a bit of them. But after some time, you get to know everyone and it really just becomes part of your norm, like you're filming this for months and ... it fully fades into the background and it's just kind of part of your life." – Zach Shallcross of the omnipresent cameras filming him on "The Bachelor" on ABC " h b a a y e r p l t . t a p Z o c o o "That Achilles heel is another part of the show that I really love, this troubled relationship with her omnipotent father." – Lauren Ash of "Not Dead Yet" on ABC, about her character in the show " i t l r h f A Y h s "I'm getting ready to go to Ireland to start another film there, based on a book called 'Four Letters of Love' by Niall Williams. I like to work. I like to challenge myself." – Pierce Brosnan of "History's Greatest Heists With Pierce Brosnan" on History
