Council, water and sewer department tackle issues for Owensville By Star Times Staff A water line break in the building at the Owensville water plant caused damage to the ceiling of the office during the cold snap that ended last year. Billy Ross, Owensville Water Superinten- dent, said the line had been installed in the office attic years ago and burst due to the freezing temperatures. The burst pipe caused damage to the ceiling tiles and insulation in the office, which is currently being repaired. Ross said the line had be re-routed to avoid the issue recurring. Ross, who also heads up the sewer depart- ment, said that the town continues to run into an issue with clogging in the sewer line on the west side of town. "Most municipalities require certain busi- nesses to have grinders on line with their sew- er systems," Ross said. Nursing homes, hospitals and apartments are usually required, according to information Ross provided to the council. He added the sewer department is constant- ly cleaning and testing in the area, and he is unsure how the town could move for ward, whether it uses fines or some other way to motivate those businesses that need to comply. The council plans to look into the matter further. Owensville links with Wessler on asset management plan for sewer project By Star Times Staff The town of Owensville has entered into an agreement with Wessler Engineering for an as- set management plan coming out of the town council meeting on Tuesday. Going back to the December meeting, Josh Hood told the council that in the past, SRF funding required an asset management plan after a project was completed. Now the plan will be required at the beginning of the expansion of the sewer plant by April 1. The council had tabled the acceptance of the plan until the Januar y meeting so all the details could be examined to make sure ever ything was in order. Dwayne Matsel, Owensville Council Presi- dent said he received information from Denny Simpson that Dave Houser has written a plan around 12 years ago on the Wellhead Protec- tion Committee that researched the water sup- ply of the wells. He said the water supply came from the southeast and the town wells are right at the north edge of an aquifer. According to Billy Ross, Water Superinten- dent, the National Water Ser vice will test drill as soon as they receive clearance to do so. The cost of the asset management plan is not to exceed $25,000. Allen back at Purdue, withdraws from transfer portal By andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Brady Allen is back in the fold at Purdue Uni- versity. He announced on Sunday he was with- drawing from the transfer portal and return- ing to Purdue, where he was the second-high- est rated quarterback ever signed by the Boil- ermakers. Allen announced on December 26 he was entering the transfer portal. It came days af- ter Purdue head football coach Jeff Brohm an- nounced he was leaving Purdue and his offen- sive coordinator was going to Louisville with him. In the meantime, Purdue hired Illinois de- fensive coordinator Ryan Walters as their head coach and Doug Harrell as their offensive co- ordinator. Allen came home for Christmas break and decided he wanted to take a look around at oth- er schools. A fter getting an offer from a west coast school and visiting Ole Miss, Allen de- cided he would stay at Purdue. Chris Allen, Brady's father, said Brady told him, " You know I feel really good about do- ing it.'" Brady told him it allowed him to get ques- tions answered. Once the new staff at Purdue got settled, their communication got better and Brady apparently liked what he heard. "We had him again decide what meant the most to him when picking a school. It was the school/education, coaches, offense, life after football and location in that order," said Allen. "From the beginning, going back to Purdue was always an option. I think with the coach- ing staff change he owed it to himself to look around for the best fit for him and I think he found it," said Gibson Southern football coach Nick Hart. Hart described the portal process as "new and really wild." Allen had only a few days to consider his options, which included more than 40 schools reaching out to him once he entered the portal. He cut his list of prospects to two schools, made an official visit to Old Miss on Saturday and then made his announcement on Sunday morning. Later Sunday, he got in a car and drove back to Purdue, where he started Spring semester classes on Monday. Allen was red-shirted last season and will be a red shirt freshman this fall at Purdue.
