The Adopt-A-Plot program offers individuals or groups the option to plant/maintain selected garden areas on the museum grounds. Small signs may be displayed alongside each area recognizing the "adopters" or a designated family, business, church, club, or in-memo- riam. A variety of spaces are available. Experience Center reopens The TMMI Experience Center is once again offering tram tours to the public. They are currently open on Tues- days, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, running tours of up to 32 people at 9 a.m. CST and noon. Merit board meets The 2023 meetings of the Gibson County Sheriff's Mer- it Board are at 12:30 p.m., the second Tuesday of ever y month the Gibson County Community Corrections Con- ference Room, located at 112 E. Trustees meet The Oakland City - Columbia Township Public Li- brar y Board of Trustees Finance Committee will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 3:45 p.m. The regularly called meeting of the Board of Trustees will take place at 4 p.m. or the conclusion of the finance committee meeting. The Board of Trustees for Oakland City-Columbia Township Public Librar y will continue to meet at 4 p.m. on the second Wednesday of ever y month as the dates for their regular monthly board meetings. The meetings are in the Librar y Meeting Room. JANUARY EVENTS Sponsor an adoption Gibson County Animal Ser vices is hosting an adop- tion-sponsorship event. Now through Jan. 21, businesses and community members can sponsor the adoption fee of a homeless cat for $100 or dog for $125 at Gibson County Animal Ser vices. Sponsors can pick the pet or allow it to go to a random pet in need. Pets can also be sponsored in memor y of someone. Donations to non-profit GCAS are tax deductible. Council President Dwayne Matsel said the water depart- ment had looked into the matter and the cost would be around $40,000. He added they would work with Burger to find a solution and maybe he can inquire with his neigh- bors and see if they are inter- ested in tapping into a possible line to help defer the cost a bit. Resident Jared Dearing had an outside water line that burst and ran for more than 24 hours without his knowl- edge, leaving him with a bill of $800.41. The council was able to adjust the sewer amount for Dearing to $395.23, giving him a new balance of $405.18. Resident Tara Crowley had a water main break in her yard and requested an adjustment on her bill. She did not bring her bill in, but Clerk Treasurer Vanessa Riggs said she would look into the bill for Crowley and contact her. The council also approved a request to open the yard waste dump ever y third Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. COUNCIL Continued from page 1 THOMaS 'TOM' edWard dreHer Thomas 'Tom' Edward Dre- her, 75, of Haubstadt, entered into his eternal rest, on Janu- ar y 1, 2023. He was presently a resident of Haubstadt, previously a long time resident of Sullivan, where he raised his family. He was born September 13, 1947, to Edward and Jean (Wilbur) Dreher in Terre Haute. He married his wife, Lana Monk on July 29, 1972 and they cel- ebrated 50 years of marriage this summer. He was a 1966 graduate of Wiley High School. He proud- ly ser ved his countr y in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He went on to work for Pfiz- er, from which he retired. He was a member of the Sullivan VFW #2459, American Legion #139 and the Sullivan Elks Club #911. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and those who loved him. They will miss his endless chatter and his never meeting a stranger, no matter where they went. His lovingly calling ever yone "Hon" or "Buddy" will also be missed. His favorite place to visit was the 'Happiest Place on Earth' Disney World, with his family by his side. He was a true avid sports fan, particu- larly keeping up with the Car- dinals, Colts and Pacers. He definitely loved all sports. His world revolved around his chil- dren and grandchildren, they lit up his world and his love was endless for them. Sur viving him are his wife, Lana Monk Dreher, daughters, Jody (Ronald) Robinson, Jen- nifer (Kevin) Spindler; grand- children, Amelia and Robert Robinson, Elizabeth (Grant) Holzmeyer, Emily, Eva and El- liott Spindler. Preceding him in death are his parents, also brother Fred- erick Dreher. There will be a celebration of Tom's life on Saturday, Jan- uar y 14, 2023, from noon to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) at the VFW #2459, 201 W Illinois St. Sullivan, IN 47882. Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. Knights of St. John donations Sts. Peter & Paul School and St. James School each received a $1,000 donation from the Knights of St. John Commandery 345. This donation is made possible by the Knights of St. John annual sausage sales. Both schools are extremely grateful for the donation which will help us serve the many needs of our students in regards to their learning and education. Megan Howington and eric Chamberlain, principals, received the checks from Knights of St. John representatives on January 5.
