Brainerd Dispatch • December 25 - 31, 2022 •19 "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" - Season 3 Get right back into the action with the Season 3 premiere of "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan," premiering Wednesday, Dec. 21, on Prime. This season finds CIA agent Jack Ryan (John Krasinski, "The Of- fice") working as a case officer in Rome. When he is tipped off that the Sokol Project, a secret plan to restore the Soviet Empire, is being resurrected more than 50 years after it was thought to have been shut down, Jack embarks on a mission to confirm the intelligence. However, things quickly go awry, and Jack finds himself accused of treason and on the run with a Red Notice for his arrest. As he works to evade his own government, Jack races against the clock to prevent a global catastrophe. Based on the hit series of spy thriller novels by Tom Clancy, "Jack Ryan" was created for television by Carlton Cuse ("Lost") and Graham Roland ("Dark Winds"). This season also stars Wendell Pierce ("The Wire"), Michael Kelly ("House of Cards"), Nina Hoss ("Phoenix," 2014), Betty Gabriel ("Get Out," 2017), Kevin Kent ("13 Hours," 2016), Peter Guinness ("Zack Snyder's Justice League," 2021), Alexej Manvelov ("Chernobyl"), James Cosmo ("Braveheart," 1995) and Mikhail Safronov ("Anna," 2019). "When Hope Calls Christmas" (2022) Based on the "When Calls the Heart" spinoff series titled "When Hope Calls," the Christmas special "When Hope Calls Christmas" premieres on Prime Tuesday, Dec. 20. The series, set in the early 1900s, centers on the lives of orphan siblings Lillian (Mor- gan Kohan, "Love on Harbor Island," 2020) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon, "Sniper: Rogue Mission," 2022), who grow up apart but reunite later in adulthood. In this festive film, when the little town of Brookfield is selected by a national magazine to be featured for its holiday spirit, the residents band together to turn their community into a Christmas wonderland like no other. Directed by Bradley Walsh ("A Merry Christmas Wish," 2022), the film stars Kohan, Ryan-James Hatanaka ("Nancy Drew") and Lori Loughlin ("Full House"). "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" (2022) Get a mystery with a view when the highly anticipated new crime comedy sequel, "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," premieres Friday, Dec. 23, on Netflix. Heading off to a lavish private estate on a Greek Island, intrepid detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig, "Casino Royale," 2006) soon winds up in the company of a group of dis- parate, well-to-do friends brought together by billion- aire Miles Bron (Edward Norton, "Birdman or (The Un- expected Virtue of Ignorance)," 2014). When someone turns up dead, everyone is a suspect and, as per usual, everyone has their own secrets, lies and motivations that add to the case. It's up to Det. Blanc to unravel the mystery and bring the murderer to justice. From direc- tor and writer Rian Johnson ("Looper," 2012), who earned a an Oscar nomination for the original "Knives Out" (2019) film, the all-star cast of "Glass Onion" is rounded out by Janelle Monáe ("Hidden Figures," 2016), Kathryn Hahn ("WandaVision"), Leslie Odom Jr. ("Hamilton," 2020), Jessica Henwick ("The Gray Man," 2022), Madelyn Cline ("Outer Banks"), Kate Hudson ("Truth Be Told") and Dave Bautista ("Guardians of the Galaxy," 2014). "Alice in Borderland" - Season 2 Take a trip down the rabbit hole with Season 2 of the Japanese sci-fi thriller "Alice in Borderland," premier- ing Thursday, Dec. 22, on Netflix. Based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso, the series began as obsessed gamer Arisu (Kento Yamazaki, "Orange," 2015) suddenly found himself in a bizarre, emptied-out version of Tokyo, where he and his friends were forced to compete in a series of dangerous games in order to survive. Now, hoping to solve the mystery of what this strange Borderland really is and return to their own world, Arisu and his friends must take on even more dangerous games to survive and, hopefully, escape. From director Shinsuke Sato ("I Am a Hero," 2015), who writes the series with Yasuko Kuramitsu ("Love Song"), "Alice in Borderland" is executive produced by Kaata Sakamoto ("The Naked Director"). The series also stars Tao Tsuchiya ("Downtown Rocket"), Nijiro Murakami ("Isle of Dogs," 2018), Ayaka Miyo- shi ("Confessions," 2010), Dori Sakurada ("Coffee and Vanilla"), Aya Asahina ("Girl Gun Lady"), Yuri Tsunematsu ("The Naked Director"), Yuki Morinaga ("Sweet Revenge"), Keita Machida ("Meet Me After School"), Hayato Isomura ("Offbeat Cops," 2022), Kai Inowaki ("Given"), Katsuya Maikuma ("Believers," 2022), Honami Sato ("Ride or Die," 2021), Nobuaki Kaneko ("Promise Cinderella"), Tsuyoshi Abe ("Tokyo Vampire Hotel," 2017), Sho Aoyagi ("Mr. Long," 2017), Riisa Naka ("Tokyo MER"), Yutaro Watanabe ("Flight- less Bird and Merry-Go-Round," 2015) and Tomohisa Yamashita ("The Man From Toronto," 2022).
