Graham Street • Shelby, NC NO UPFRONT ATTORNEY NO UPFRONT ATTORNEY FEES FOR FILING CHAPTER 13 FEES FOR FILING CHAPTER 13 The Rev. Kheresa Harmon, School of Divinity Director of Admissions, at Gardner-Webb University is the recipient of the 2022 Anne Thomas Neil Award for Clergy, presented recently by the Baptist Women in Ministry of North Carolina (BWIM NC). Named for Neil, who was a founding member of BWIM and BWIM NC, the award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of women in ministry. Harmon, served as minister to children at First Baptist Church in Forest City, until September 25. Her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Garin Hill, nominated her for the award. Harmon will begin serving as a Minister at St. John's Baptist Church in Charlotte beginning October 3. "I truly thought a mistake had been made. How could I be nominated, much less selected, to receive an award that honors the memory of Anne Thomas Neil, a ministerial giant and mentor to Baptist women in ministry," Harmon said she asked herself when she learned she received the award. "How could I be given an award that has been given to the women and men who have formed me in my faith and nurtured my understanding of God's call upon my life... How could I possibly receive an award that has been given to Geneva Metzger, Wanda Kidd, Carolyn McClendon, Ka'thy Gore Chappell, Tyanna Yonkers, Esther Parker, Paula Settle, Faithe Beam, Kay Simpson, Alicia Davis Porterfi eld...?" she continued. She received the award on September 15 at the First Baptist Church, Raleigh, with her family attending. Dr. Jennifer Bashaw placed a communion set in Harmon's hand that was crafted by Marie and John Graeper of Rutherfordton. "Still surprised, shocked, and most overwhelmed spiritually and emotionally, I received the Anne Thomas Neil award for 2022 from Baptist Women in Ministry of North Carolina. Days have passed, and I remain surprised, shocked, overwhelmed, and deeply humbled," Harmon continued. Harmon also said, "As the communion set was placed in my hands and my eyes and ears soaked up the sights and sounds around me, I saw the faces of two women whose lives still fi nd life in me. I saw the faces of Mariah Lopez and Ally Day. I saw the faces of the women they are now. I heard the voices of their childhood years. For it was through the voice of a young Mariah that God spoke and, when I nearly walked away from ministry – from it all – what was lost was found. It was through the voice of a young Ally that God spoke, and I began writing a new chapter in my life in children's ministry. It was through the powerful words of two once little girls, now women who are my sisters in the faith, that I heard God speak to me. For Mariah and Ally I give thanks. It is for them that I have received the Anne Thomas Neil award. It is for them that this award has been given." Ally was one of Harmon's children at First Baptist Church, Forest City and Mariah Lopez from her years at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek.
