June 26 - July 2, 2022 • Terre Haute Tribune-Star • 19 tastytv BY GEORGE DICKIE Cooking with the stars: Celebs with kitchen skills Most people's idea of an actor's life usually involves a world of awards banquets, cocktail parties and personal chefs. Not hovering over a pot of bubbling ragout in a kitchen. But before these folks became stars, they were struggling thesps who had to find a way to feed themselves. Some may have worked in restaurants or kitchens and picked up a few chops along the way. Others perhaps were raised in a family of foodies and thus had skills from a young age. But all have a love of good food and know how to produce it. Such as the following. Chrissy Teigen: The co-host of the currently Roku Channel series "Chrissy's Court" has made food her livelihood, with a website (cravingsbychrissyteigen. com) devoted to recipes, cooking videos and selling cookbooks (some of which are her own) and kitchen equipment. She also has cooking in her blood as her mom Pepper is an accomplished Thai chef, as she's demonstrated on her Food Network series "Getting Spicy with Pepper Teigen." Lady Gaga: You don't grow up in a family of cooks headed by a father who owns an Italian eatery in New York City and not pick up a few tips and tricks. Toward that end, the Grammy- and Oscar-winning artist born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta enjoys making pasta dishes, especially fresh ravioli with fillings from her personal garden. Stanley Tucci: It should come as no surprise that the host of CNN's food/travel series "Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy" and star of the 1996 foodie drama "Big Night" would have culinary knowledge. He's written several cookbooks plus an autobiography "My Life Through Food" and posted a number of Italian cooking videos to YouTube. He's also shown a flair for mixology, mixing up cocktails in videos on social media during lockdown. Bradley Cooper: That nifty knifework the Oscar- nominated actor displayed in 2015's "Burnt"? That was all Cooper as he undertook a month of culinary training for the role, which also proved instrumental in getting him back into his own kitchen when filming ended. He also has cooking in his background, hailing from an Italian family that cooks and having worked as a prep cook at a New Jersey restaurant. Eva Longoria: The former "Desperate Housewives" star has been cooking since childhood and considers it the best way to show appreciation to her loved ones. Her specialty is Mexican, which is also her heritage, and she's published a cookbook "Eva's Kitchen: Cooking with Love for Family and Friends."
