Layer-by-layer, brick-by-brick, the
painstaking process of rebuilding
adobe structures that were badly
damaged in 2014 by a huge valley
oak tree took place.
William B. Ide Adobe State Historic
Park was a homestead that reflects
the hard work required by settlers to
maintain life in the mid-19th century.
Ide, a Massachusetts native, was a
local judge in Northern California.
He wrote the proclamation that
established the short-lived California
Bear Republic in 1846. He was the
republic's president, which lasted
only 22 days. Ide recognized the
many opportunities available in the
West, including surveying, mining
and leadership roles as well.
Other early settlers made the
ranch their home during the Gold
Rush as they envisioned success
and opportunities.
