Oscars for best picture went to the first two films about the underworld's Corleone family, initially run by s hugely influential don (Marlon Brando) who passes his power to his supposedly genteel son Michael. Director Francis Ford Coppola stages many scenes of novelist Mario Puzo's saga epically, and the casts of all three movies are stunning. Also included within the trilogy are Robert Duvall, James Caan, Diane Keaton, John Cazale, Talia Shire, Robert De Niro, Richard Conte, Sterling Hayden, John Marley, Al Lettieri, Lee Strasberg, Michael V. Gazzo, G.D. Spradlin, Andy Garcia, Joe Mantegna, George Hamilton, Bridget Fonda and –though she's taken her share of heat for her "Part III"/"Coda" performance over the years – Coppola's daughter Sofia. Brando and De Niro won acting Oscars for their work here. ›››› (R: AS, P, GV) "DEXTER: NEW BLOOD" Old habits die hard, as Dexter Morgan recently reaffirmed. Showtime revived one of its most popular dramas – with the continuation presented here in a complete- series set – as Michael C. Hall resumed the title role of the well-intentioned serial killer. Set a decade after Dexter left Miami amid a hurricane, the show establishes him in an upstate New York town with a new identity and a romance with the police chief (Julia Jones) ... but that doesn't keep him from resorting to his lethal former ways when fresh circumstances prompt that. Other familiar faces also resurface, including Jennifer Carpenter as Dexter's sister Debra and John Lithgow, who won a Primetime Emmy Award in his first run as the so-called "Trinity Killer" (though fans of the original series may question how they could reappear). Dexter's son Harrison figures into the plot, now played by Jack Alcott, and Julia Jones portrays the local police chief with whom Dexter is romantically involved. ››› (Not rated: AS, N, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray) "THE CORE" Though this well-done 2003 sci-fi tale was slated for a Blu-ray release several years ago, that ended up not happening, but it's finally making its debut in the format. When the earth's core stops rotating – causing calamities around the globe (birds attacking, pacemakers stopping, etc.) and threatening cataclysmic radiation – a diverse team is assembled to drill into ultra-hot inner space in a specially designed vessel and correct the problem. Hilary Swank and Bruce Greenwood play the pilots, with Aaron Eckhart, Stanley Tucci, Delroy Lindo and Tcheky Karyo as the specially skilled members of their crew. Alfre Woodard, Richard Jenkins and DJ Qualls also star in the Jon Amiel-directed picture, which benefits from dashes of humor amid its urgent scenario ... and take it from our experience, this is great fun to watch on a Saturday afternoon. ››› (PG-13: P, V) "IN THEIR OWN WORDS: SEASON 2" Even if this PBS biography series doesn't profile its subjects entirely "In Their Own Words," enough of those words are included to satisfy the program's purpose. Introduced in 2015 with portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, Muhammad Ali and Jim Henson, the show offered this second round last year ... and the featured figures are Pope Francis, Princess Diana, former President Jimmy Carter, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, music icon Chuck Berry and entrepreneur Elon Musk. Observers and acquaintances contribute much of the commentary backing the archival footage and enhanced graphics, but the words of the showcased legends that are meant to be stressed are shown in text. John Travolta, David Letterman, President George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton, Keith Richards, Garth Brooks and Ambassador Andrew Young are among those interviewed about those whom these episodes center around. ››› (Not rated) "NIGHTMARE ALLEY" Currently up for four Oscars including best picture, director and co-writer Guillermo del Toro's mystical melodrama – the second screen version of William Lindsay Gresham's novel – lets Bradley Cooper stretch his acting chops as a hard-luck new acquaintance of married performers in a traveling carnival (Toni Collette, David Strathairn). He uses what he learns from them to infiltrate the social scene of 1940s New York, but his eventual association with an enigmatic psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) may add dangerous twists to his scheme to fleece a tycoon (Richard Jenkins). Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, Mary Steenburgen and Ron Perlman also are in the impressive cast. DVD extras: three "making-of" documentaries. ››› (R: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, Digital and On Demand) Bradley Cooper in "Nightmare Alley" "I remember (when) I made "Trainwreck" with Judd Apatow, there was something that I was like, 'Oh, that's a little close to the stand-up special that I did a couple of years ago,' and he was like, 'OK, well, 50,000 people saw that and 50 million people are going to see this.' So if it's thematic, I'm less worried about repeating my own work and more focused on the story or the message." – Amy Schumer of "Life & Beth" on Hulu " m J s ' t d a 5 a g t a w t A B "I think that a lot of the times people forget like how technical and skilled the makeup and hair and costume departments have to be. They get called 'glamour' a lot and you forget that the original concept of glamour is that you're putting a spell, that you are creating an illusion. And we don't get to create that without that exquisite skill of those departments. And so yeah, you don't have a show without them (laughs)." – Anna Chlumsky of "Inventing Anna" on Netflix " t h t a h c a o g p a A c e d y a ( C A Towne Park is now Medicaid Waiver approved.
