Brainerd Dispatch • February 6 - 12, 2022 •19 By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "I Want You Back" (2022) "All's fair in love and war," as the proverbial saying goes, and the lead characters of this new film are taking it to heart. "I Want You Back" premieres Friday, Feb. 11, on Prime. Both nursing broken hearts after an abrupt end to their relationships, strangers Peter (Charlie Day, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") and Emma (Jenny Slate, "Bob's Burgers") became acquaintances on the worst day of their lives. Though both of their exes have already moved on and started new relationships, Peter and Emma are determined to win back the loves of their lives. Hatching a hilariously harebrained scheme to break their former partners apart from their new loves, these new - found friends see their plan turn up some unexpected results. Created and written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the writers behind "Love, Simon" (2018) and "This is Us," this fun, new romantic comedy is directed by Jason Orley ("Big Time Adolescence," 2019). The film also stars Scott Eastwood ("Suicide Squad," 2016), Gina Rodriguez ("Jane the Virgin"), Manny Jacinto ("The Good Place") and Clark Backo ("Letterkenny"). WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY "Alice's Wonderland Bakery" - Season 1 Tune in for a batch of magically tasty treats when Disney Junior's new computer-animated series, "Alice's Wonderland Bakery," premieres on the Disney+ stream- ing service on Wednesday, Feb. 9. This fun children's adventure series follows Alice (voiced by both Libby Rue, "Nightlight," 2019, and newcomer Emily Hinkle), the great- granddaughter of the original Alice from Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel "Al- ice's Adventures in Wonderland." A budding young baker in the magical Wonderland Bakery, Alice explores the kingdom while em- barking on culinary adventures, cre- ates delicious new treats and learns about friendship with new and old friends, including the Cheshire Cat (Max Mittelman, "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir"), Princess Rosa (Abigail Estrella, "Wolfboy and the Everything Factory"), Hat- tie (C.J. Uy, "The Ball Method," 2020), Dinah (Audrey Wasilewski, "My Life as a Teenage Robot"), Fer- gie the white rabbit (Jack Stanton, "The Mick") and more by her side. Executive produced by Chelsea Beyl ("Vampirina") and Frank Montanga ("Mulan," 1998), the series is directed by Nathan Chew ("Elena of Avalor") and written by Beyl. Secunda Wood ("Juras- sic World: Camp Cretaceous") and Marcel Nahapetian ("Why Women Kill") also voice star, while Craig Ferguson ("The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson"), Eden Espinosa ("Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure"), Jon Secada ("Just Another Day"), Vanessa Bayer, Ana Gasteyer and Bobby Moynihan (all of "Saturday Night Live"), Donald Faison ("Scrubs"), Rich Sommer ("Mad Men") and Yvette Nicole Brown ("Community") guest star in the series. WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Child of Kamiari Month" (2021) Come along on a destiny-fulfilling adventure in "Child of Kamiari Month" ("Kamiari no kodomo" in the original Japanese), the new anime film premiering on Netflix on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Aju Makita ("True Mothers," 2020) voice stars as Kanna, a 12-year-old girl who loses her love for running and her spark for life after the death of her mother. Now a year after her los- ing her mother, Kanna learns that her family has a mission to deliver offerings from all over Japan to the sacred land of Izumo for the annual gathering of gods. Originally her mother's mission to complete, the task now falls on Kanna's shoul- ders. Setting out on a life-changing adventure across Japan with the hope of reuniting with her mother in the Gods' land, Kanna learns valuable lessons about herself. Produced by Uko Oshia ("Show Me the Way to the Station," 2019), the film is directed by Takana Shirai ("Harmony," 2015). Miyu Irino ("Spirited Away," 2001) and Maaya Sakamoto ("Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon") also voice star. "Bigbug" (2022) Humans take on machines in the not-so-ordinary French science fiction film "BigBug," coming to Netflix on Friday, Feb. 11. The film is set in the year 2050, when artificial intelligence is a part of everyday life and humanity relies on it to fulfill their every need and desire. However, this happy, easy existence is threatened when a group of do- mestic robots in a quiet residential home rebel and decide to take their masters hostage in their own house. While the dysfunctional fam- ily and their nosy neighbor become increasingly hysterical indoors, a new generation of android is try- ing to take over the outside world. From director and writer Jean- Pierre Jeunet and writer Guillaume Laurant (both of the 2001 hit "Amé- lie" and 2004's "A Very Long En- gagement"), "BigBug" is produced by Frédéric Doniguian ("Them," 2006) and Richard Grandpierre ("Brotherhood of the Wolf," 2001). Dominique Pinon ("Delicatessen," 1991), Elsa Zylberstein ("I've Loved You So Long," 2008), André Dussol- lier ("Tell No One," 2006), Isabelle Nanty ("Amélie," 2001), Alban Lenoir ("Taken," 2008), Claude Per- ron ("Workingirls"), Claire Chust ("Guépards"), Youssef Hajdi ("The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec," 2010), Stéphane De Groodt ("Tout Nous Sourit," 2020), François Levantal ("Les Kassos"), Sébastien Gill ("Madame Claude," 2021) and newcomer Guy Donald Koukissa star in the film. "Tall Girl 2" (2022) Settle in for some high school growing pains in the new coming- of-age romantic comedy "Tall Girl 2," premiering on Netflix on Friday, Feb. 11. A sequel to the 2019 Netflix flick "Tall Girl," this newest addi- tion to the series continues with teen Jodi Kreyman's (Ava Michelle, "Dance Moms") quest to find love and popularity as she makes her way through high school, but with the added complication of being (as the franchise title suggests) so tall she always stands out from the crowd. Measuring in at over six feet tall, Jodi has to learn to embrace herself as she is. But now, as she gains popularity at school and miscommunications start to cause rifts in the relationships around her, Jodi has to learn to "stand tall" and speak up for herself. Directed by Emily Ting ("Go Back to China," 2019) and written by Sam Wolfson ("Tall Girl," 2019), "Tall Girl 2" also stars Griffin Gluck ("Locke & Key"), Sabrina Carpenter ("Horns," 2013), Steve Zahn ("War for the Planet of the Apes," 2017), Angela Kinsey ("The Office"), Anjelika Wash- ington ("Stargirl"), Luke Eisner ("Tiger Within," 2020), Clara Wilsey ("Ballers"), Rico Paris ("8 Slices," 2019), Jan Luis Castellanos ("13 Reasons Why"), Johanna Liauw ("Quarantine Leap"), Chris Wylde ("Space Cowboys," 2000) and Ra- chael Thompson ("WandaVision"). WHAT'S NEW ON HBO MAX "Kimi" Academy Award-winning direc- tor Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic," 2000) and acclaimed action writer David Koepp ("Jurassic Park," 1993) come together to bring audiences the new crime thriller "Kimi," available to stream on HBO Max beginning Thursday, Feb. 10. Zoë Kravitz ("Mad Max: Fury Road," 2015) stars as Angela, an agoraphobic voice-streaming analyst in Seattle, where her quiet, easy life is accompanied by her voice-powered digital assistant, Kimi. When Angela hears what she believes to be a violent crime in one of her recordings, her company's re- luctance to take the issue seriously means doing the thing she hates the most: Going outside. Starring alongside Kravitz in the film are Rita Wilson ("Sleepless in Seattle," 1993), India de Beaufort ("Run Fatboy Run," 2007), Robin Givens ("Batwoman"), Jaime Camil ("Jane the Virgin"), Jacob Vargas ("Sons of Anarchy"), Charles Halford ("Constantine"), Emily Kuroda ("Gilmore Girls"), Devin Ratray ("Home Alone," 1990) and Erika Christensen ("Traffic," 2000).
