TITANS WRESTLING Good Luck at Sectionals Twigs seventh grade boys stomp South Spencer Fort Branch's seventh grade boys jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 33-17 win over South Spencer on Tuesday night. A fter leading 12-4 at half- time, they put the game away with a 15 -2 run on South Spen- cer in the third quarter. Ian Maikranz led the way with 16 points, including two three pointers. Khale Campbell had nine points and Knoxx Lamb added five for the sev- enth grade Twigs. Haubstadt's seventh boys stay undefeated Haubstadt's seventh boys stayed undefeated with a 49 -7 win over Mt. Vernon and the eighth grade boys' comeback fell just short. The seventh grade boys, led by Clayton Gries' 10 points, in- cluding two three-pointers, pulled away from Mt. Vernon. Crewe Hasenour added eight points. Twelve of the 13 Haubstadt players scored in the game for the Elites. Kolton Schmitt had six, Jeter Simmons, Boston Baker and Brayden Campbell each had four points. Carson Hartke and Reece Runyan both had three points. Mason Kruse, Peyton Johnson and Ben Re- inhardt had two points, and Aiden Alston hit a free throw for one point. The seventh grade is 13-0. Haubstadt came up just short in the eighth grade game 38 -34. The Elites trailed 11-9 at the first stop and 20 -14 at the half. A fter three quar- ters, the Wildcats had pulled ahead 32-21 and looked like they might run away with the game. But the Elites battled back to within two points at 36 -34 and had the ball with 20 seconds on the clock before a turnover sealed the game for Mt. Vernon. Spencer Staggs led the way with 13 points. Gunner Alex- ander added nine points. Col- in Scherer and Cameron Trux- al each had five points. Isaac Fryman added a late field goal. Both teams had 15 field goals and two 3-point shots. The dif- ference was at the free throw line. The Elites managed on- ly 2 of 7 from the stripe, while Mt. Vernon hit 6 of 11. The eighth grade falls to 9 - 2. Both teams travel to Cas- tle South on Thursday. "I was happy the boys battled back in the fourth quarter. Mt. Vernon has a nice team and we need- ed a tough game like this to get ready for the upcoming PAC Tourney next week," said Coach Gary May. Haubstadt's seventh grade boys' team, coached by Isaiah Stafford, finished their season undefeated with a 15-0 record. He then beat South Spencer's Cole Whetley by fall in one minute even. In the consolation semi-fi- nals, Wahl beat Boonville's Gavin Whitsell (21-13) by a 4-2 decision, which advanced him to the fifth place match. He lost to North Posey's Na- than Schoening by a 4-1 de- cision for sixth place. Chandler also started with a bye and then lost to Southridge's Cayden An- drews by pin. In the consolation second round, he pinned Princeton's Xander Shearer in 4:10. He then beat Boonville's Jace Durham 7-1 to advance to the fifth place match, where he lost by fall to Julian Dick- inson, of Mt. Vernon. Jack Rose, at 160, and Bak- er Calvert, 126 pounds, both placed eighth for the Titans. They will compete in the Evansville Central Sectional on Saturday. Gibson Southern's Max Wahl at 132 pounds shoots on Tell City's Coy Hammock during the Pocket Ath- letic Conference championships on Saturday. Wahl lost the match with Hammock who was the eventu- al champion and is 25-0 on the year. Wahl placed sixth in the event.
