B-8 School Tuesday, December 21, 2021 South Gibson Star-Times St. James catholic School FOURTH GRADE NEWS Hello, from the fourth grade class at St James School. Here we are again. Things are getting busy now. We are all excited about Christmas, but still have to do our school work and get Christmas cards and gifts put together. We are having fun, but Sister is get getting a bit frustrated sometimes. We are making ornaments for our parents and it is a lot of fun. We love this week. We went caroling for the kindergarten, first graders and second graders during their lunch period. It was so much fun and they liked it, too. We only sang about four songs because we wanted to be sure they ate and didn't just listen to us sing. We get to do it again tomorrow, but Friday we eat with our Secret Santa so we will all eat at the same time. The upper grades are Se- cret Santas to the lower grades. They send cards and give us hints as to who they are. Some of us think we know who our Secret Santa is, but we won't know for sure until Friday. We all made cards to give to our Secret Santa. Next year, we will get to be the Se- cret Santa, and that will be fun, too. The girls got to decorate the hallway and classroom. They had a lot of fun. The ledge in the hall has Christ- mas Villages on it. We made some of the houses out of milk cartons. We cut windows and doors in them and wrapped them in red or brown paper, and then put cotton on the roofs to look like snow. We put lines on the red paper to make it look like bricks. There were a lot of houses that were made in years past. In fact, one of the houses was made by Mrs. Campbell, our third grade teacher. She made it when she was in the eighth grade. It was an art project Sister Irma gave them when she taught art that year. The houses still look good, at least we think so. We get to have a Christmas Party this year and we are so glad. We get to bring in snacks for the class to share and then we get to watch a movie. It is going to be a great day. If fact, this whole week as been lots of fun. We didn't have as much school work as we usually do and that has been great. One of our classmates is in the hospital, Makenzie More- head, so we are going to make her ornaments for her. We hope she gets to come home by Friday. We miss her and won't be able to see her until next year. She is missing the best week of school. We hope she gets well soon. We better go now and get to work on the next ornament. We hope all of you have a Mer- ry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Stay healthy. Take care and God bless you all. The fourth graders, Saint James School FIFTH GRADE NEWS As the second grading peri- od comes to a close, the fifth grade students at St. James School have been spending some time preparing for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Each Monday morn- ing, the entire school meets in the gym for a short Advent prayer service. Each week's prayer service has been a re- flective time for the students to remember what the season of Advent is all about. In our classroom, we have been read- ing from the Bible daily and creating a Jesse tree that de- picts the relatives of Jesus. We also took time to write to our prayer partners. The fifth grade students have also participated in the Secret Pal program. Up- per grade students drew the name of a Pre-K-fourth grade student. During the last two weeks, students sent cards, small gifts and notes to their Secret Pal. On Friday, Decem- ber 17, Secret Pals met with each other and had lunch and some time for recess. This has always been a fun-filled activi- ty for our students. During the first week of De- cember, the halls of St. James School were filled with the sound of music. Our students participated in the Advent Program, directed by our mu- sic teacher, Mrs. Bush. Many of our students, including sev- eral from fifth grade, partici- pated in the Mater Dei feed- er school and Christmas pro- gram. It was a very musical month here at St. James. We would like to wish ev- eryone a fun-filled and bless- ed holiday season. See you in the new year. Here we have the fourth grade class practicing their recorders for the Advent Program. The fourth grade class enjoys sitting in front of the old school after it has been decorated for the Christmas Season. Here are Libby Baumgart, Eden Adler, and Lay- la Kassenbrock decorating the hall and ledges of the Old School with Christmas Villages. Band—St. James Fifth graders Gabriel Faraone, Isabel Kroft, Caiden Elpers, Garrett Ziliak, and Tate Bane recently performed with the Mater Dei feeder school band. Program—Fifth grade students at St. James School get ready to perform in the Advent Program. Sts. Peter and Paul catholic School 5A and 5B completed their Colonial reports and dioramas. They look great and all the other grades were re- ally impressed with their work. The 5th Grade presented the play for our Advent Program. The students did an excellent job and it was enjoyed by all who attended. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades made stain glass or- naments and we decorated our large window on our floor to get ready for Christmas! It looked awesome!
