The money, raised at the company's inaugural golf tournament, will benefi t local students who attend the annual Making It Work event and provide scholarships for students entering trade and/or manufacturing programs at CCC. "We have some truly wonderful industry partners," said Tony Fogleman, vice president of Economic and Workforce Development at CCC. "This donation from Southern States will help remove barriers for some students and give them an opportunity to pursue a rewarding career." Southern States joins a long line of existing partners who work with the College to increase awareness about careers in manufacturing. For the past several years, the College, Cleveland County Schools and the Cleveland County Economic Development Partnership have teamed up with local industry to host the Making It Work event. This event promotes careers in manufacturing and helps change the way people perceive manufacturing jobs. During the event, high school students learn about career opportunities from employees who work in manufacturing at local companies. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the committee to postpone this year's Making It Work event. However, Southern States' donation will be used to provide scholarships for students in manufacturing- related programs. "Southern States Machinery is dedicated to educating young adults on the many opportunities that are available in the world of manufacturing. There is a great future for young men and women who attend programs such as the ones Cleveland Community College provides," said Plourd. "Our customers throughout the Carolinas are in search of such people with a hunger and drive for continual learning. Our 1st Annual Golf Tournament at the Mooresville Golf Club was a huge success and a great networking event. All proceeds from the event were donated to CCC." Sandra Jenkins, human resources manager at STI Kings Plush, serves on the Making It Work planning committee and volunteered to represent the committee at Southern States' recent golf tournament. At the check presentation Jenkins said, "STI considers CCC a strong strategic partner. Together, we share common core values regarding education, training and work-based learning opportunities for today's youth. Thank you, Southern States Machinery, for joining our collaboration efforts to better equip those youth to be tomorrow's leaders." Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at every street corner. Lamentations 2:19
