Anders charged with felony strangulation, battery By Andy Heuring A Petersburg man is facing a level 3 felony stemming from charges that he broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and strangled her late Thursday. Randy Anders, 28, of 3391 W. CR 130 S., Petersburg, was arrested on charges of burglary, resulting in bodily injury, a level 3 felony; stran- gulation, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16. According to a probable cause affidavit, Nikki Miller contacted Petersburg Police Chief Kyle Mills, telling him she had been assaulted the night before. Mills said when he learned she lived outside city limits, he called for Dep- uty Sheriff Bryce Manning and Deputy Clint Boger. The probable cause affidavit states Miller told police she was in bed asleep and heard some- one at her back door. When she looked up, while still in bed, she saw Anders in her house and that he came to- wards her, and started chok- ing and punching her. She said her head hit the wall, and then he pushed her out of bed and was still hitting her. She said Anders eventu- ally stopped and left the res- idence, according to the affi- davit. Miller had a bruise on her forehead and was complain- ing of head pain. She also had marks on her left elbow and her left shoulder. She also told police she was in fear Anders would return to her residence. She said her door was broken and she was unable to secure it. Miller also showed police text messages she said were from Anders. They stated "i got you," "U got it coming" and "U gonna wish u would of been what I needed." Police said they checked her house door and saw that it was broken. They also talked with a child who said he heard Anders beating on the door. The child said he did not see Anders, but woke up and came into his mother's room after Anders had left and saw her. Police then went to Anders' residence, but didn't find him. Later, they located him in Ot- well. According to the proba- ble cause affidavit, Anders, af- ter being asked to come out- side and talk to them, said, "I ain't talking, so not sure what else you got to say." A fter he continued to not answer questions, Depu- ty Manning said they hand- cuffed Anders and took him into custody. A level 3 felony is punish- able by three to 16 years. State Police urge caution during holiday travel The Thanksgiving holiday period is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Indiana State Police want to remind every motor- ist planning to travel this hol- iday period to drive responsi- bly and ensure every passen- ger is buckled up properly. Last year during the Thanksgiving holiday period, more than 2,300 crashes oc- curred on Indiana roadways, which resulted in 450 injuries and eight fatalities. Extra pa- trols are funded by the Nation- al Highway Traffic Safety Ad- ministration through the Indi- ana Criminal Justice Institute. Troopers will be concentrat- ing their efforts on impaired, aggressive and distracted drivers. Troopers are encouraging all motorists to be responsible and to obey these simple tips: • Ensure you are well rested, especially if you have plans to travel a long distance. A fatigued driver is a danger- ous driver and often mimics the driving behavior of an im- paired driver. • Avoid driving distracted. It is illegal to hold your phone while driving. • Avoid "hanging out" in the left lane. • Always follow other vehi- cles at a safe distance. • Obey all speed limits and use your turn signals. • Ensure everyone is buck- led up. • Don't drink and drive. • If you have plans to con- sume alcohol, ensure you have a plan to get you and your fam- ily home safely. Robinson charged with possession of marijuana By James Capozella Bryan Robinson, 37, of 2025 W. 4th St., Owensboro, Ky., was charged with possession of marijuana, after a traffic stop for traveling 85 miles per hour on I-69, near mile-mark- er 45. Pike County Deputies Bryce Manning and Clint Bo- ger made the stop and found that the driver, Bryan Robin- son, had only an identifica- tion card. Upon noticing the odor of marijuana, Robinson stated there was a small roach in the vehicle and also some marijuana. Once the passengers were out of the vehicle, a search turned up some alcohol and a container of marijuana in the center console. Robinson was advised that charges would be sent to the prosecutor and that he would probably receive a summons to court. Deputy Manning advised Robinson that if he failed to appear for the court date, there would be a war- rant for his arrest. All sub- jects were released after an open Jim Beam bottle and an open Miller Lite beer can was poured out.
