I expect to have a winning season and not be losing all the time, like our past sea- sons, and just our energy to be more positive this sea- son," commented Leighty. Sullivan stands at 5'8" and will be a guard for the Lady Chargers this year. Coach McCutchan stat- ed, "This is Kya's first year of playing high school bas- ketball, but she is a talent- ed, hard-working player who will really help us this year on both ends of the floor." Sullivan said, "I think we have a good season ahead of us. I mean, I like the tal- ent we have and we're re- ally diverse, we have fast guards, but we have real- ly good posts that we can use." She stated a goal of hers is to not take everything to heart like usual, or get up- set about things she can't control. Parker is 5'6" and re- turning back to basket- ball after missing last sea- son. She will be playing forward for the Lady Char- gers this year. According to Coach McCutchan, she is a hard-working player who will give the team's front- court some good depth this season. Parker says she is look- ing to improve her game and looks for the team to win a lot of games and show people what they can do. She said the team at- mosphere has more ener- gy this year than it has in previous years. The last senior on the roster is Delobel, 5'7", and this will be her first year playing basketball. Accord- ing to Coach McCutchan, she is working hard at prac- tice to improve her skills and understanding of the game, but is a great person to have around the team. Delobel commented, "(The team) really inspired me a lot. I was like, 'it wont be easy at first, but their go- ing to help me through it.'" She said she hopes to win games and play a few games, and when basket- ball season is over, she would like to do the travel- ing team. Juniors this year are Kahle Young, Keena Young, Tiffany Arteaga and Delaney Welch. Start- ing with the Young twins: Kahle stands at 5'6" and will be a guard for the team this year. According to Coach McCutchan, she is a good shooter who has really improved her phys- ical play this year at prac- tice and will give the team good minutes at the varsi- ty level. While Keena, 5'7", will also be playing guard this year and, according to coach, is a smart play- er with a smooth looking jump shot, and he expects her to help both JV and var- sity this year. Next is Arteaga, who will play guard this year and stands at 5'6". She is one of the better shooters on the team, who is a confi- dent player, said Coach Mc- Cutchan. He stated he ex- pects her to help both JV and varsity teams as well this year. The last junior is Welch, who will also be playing guard this year and stands at 5'4". "Delaney is a very smart player, who has really im- proved throughout high school and will help the varsity on both ends of the floor," stated Coach Mc- Cutchan. Lady Charger sopho- mores this year are Brai- ley Mills, Anna Whitehead, Shelby Meadows, Ruby Sal- lee, Jamie Sallee and Ash- lynn Kirk. Mills stands at 5'6" and will play guard this year for the Lady Chargers. She started every game as a freshman and is a very ath- letic and skilled player, who will be one of the team's top scorers and defenders this season, according to Coach McCutchan. Whitehead, who is 5', will also be a guard this year and is a very quick defend- er, who pressures the ball well and someone Coach McCutchan expects to con- tinue to improve as the sea- son goes on. Meadows, 5'8", will play as a forward for the Lady Chargers this year on both varsity and junior varsity. "Shelby is a quick, athlet- ic forward, who is a strong rebounder and is continu- ally improving on the of- fensive end," commented Coach McCutchan. The Lady Chargers will have two Sallees as well this year, both will be guards for the girls' JV team. Coach McCutchan said, "Ruby (who is 5'5") is a hard worker who plays hard everyday and that is why she continues to im- prove on a weekly basis and is a big part of the JV team. Jamie (5'3")is another hard worker who brings great ef- fort and attitude each day to the gym and because of that will continue to get better and better." The last sophomore on the team is Kirk, who stands at 5'3", and is a very quick player and her con- fidence is growing each week as she continues to improve her skills, accord- ing to Coach McCutchan. This year's Lady Charger team has one lone fresh- man and that is Emma Hunt. Hunt stands at 5'9" and, according to Coach McCutchan, is making strides everyday at improv- ing her skills in the post and also on the perimeter. McCutchan summarized his goals for this season, "We're working on just be- ing competitive right now. Last year, we didn't have a ton of depth, we weren't re- al big. We picked up a few kids back, so it's helped with our athleticism and our depth. I'm expecting to have a good solid season, we want to be competitive. The first game we battled, just couldn't get enough stops on defense, but as long as we're willing to work hard, we're going to keep seeing improvement. I like this group, I think we have potential to be a pretty good team. Hopefully, be a threat to teams in the sec- tional." WORK Continued from page 3 I like this group, I think we have potential to be a pretty good team. Hopefully, be a threat to teams in the sectional." – Coach Kyle McCutchan
