Numerous phone calls and emails by The Press-Dispatch attempting to contact the Buf- falo Trace Council headquar- ters on Tuesday were not re- turned. The camp, located about a mile north of Highway 56, near the community of Ca- to, was largely donated to the Buffalo Trace Council in the 1980s. It was located on old strip mine ground. Employ- ees of Old Ben donated hun- dreds of hours doing the dirt work and constructing some of the buildings on the camp. In its earlier years, the camp, which includes rifle, shotgun and archery ranges, orienta- tion areas, amphitheater, a dining hall, swimming and water sports area, along with a COPE course and numerous camp sites, was home to sum- mer camp in the area. In the earlier years, it hosted Scout troops from all over the Mid- west for up to six weeks. In re- cent years, that was reduced to one week in the summer. Cub Scouts also had activi- ties at the camp. CREATIVITY. OUR SPECIALTY. When you place an ad in The Press-Dispatch, your ad is designed by Indiana's top designers.
