Brainerd Dispatch • October 10 - 16, 2021 •19 By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "You" - Season 3 Get obsessed with Season 3 of "You," coming to Netflix on Friday, Oct. 15. Based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Caroline Kep - nes, this fan-favorite series brings romance, crime and a whole lot of creepy suspense together in one place. Penn Badgley ("Gossip Girl") stars as Joe Goldberg, a New York book store manager and serial killer who develops dangerous, twisted and delusional obsessions with various women in his life. Season 2 of the series saw Joe move to Los Angeles with a new identity and fall in love with chef Love Quinn (Vic - toria Pedretti, "Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood," 2019). Season 3 now sees the continuation of Love and Joe's relationship, with new life changes and more new obses - sions. From creators Sera Gamble ("Supernatural") and Greg Berlanti ("Riverdale"), the series also stars Ambyr Childers ("Ray Donovan"), Michaela McManus ("Aquarius"), Saffron Burrows ("Mozart in the Jungle"), Tati Gabrielle ("The 100") and Dylan Arnold ("Halloween," 2018). "The Baby-Sitters Club" - Sea - son 2 Business is booming as "The Baby- Sitters Club" returns to Netflix with its second season on Monday, Oct. 11. This Netflix original series, based on the hit series of children's novels by Ann M. Martin, follows a group of five middle school friends who start up a babysitting business in their hometown of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. The group, made up of Kristy (Sophie Grace, "Terror in the Woods," 2018), Claudia (Momona Tamada, "To All the Boys: Always and Forever," 2021), Stacey (Shay Rudolph, "Lethal Weapon") and Mary Anne (Malia Baker, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"), go on adven- tures, work through their friend- ships and deal with growing up as they keep up with their business. In the newest season, the friends en- counter even more hurdles to over- come together and manage to pick up some new friends and business partners along the way. From cre- ator Rachel Shukert ("GLOW"), the series also stars Alicia Silverstone ("Clueless," 1995), Marc Evan Jack- son ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"), So- phia Reid-Gantzert ("The Sweetest Christmas," 2017), Anais Lee ("The Sun is Also a Star," 2019), Kyndra Sanchez ("Finding Ohana," 2021), Luke Roessler ("It Chapter Two," 2019), Jaycie Dotin ("Big Sky") and Isabel Birch ("A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting," 2020). WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Just Beyond" - Season 1 Discover what lies outside the comfort of your own home with "Just Beyond," the comedy- horror anthology series premier- ing on Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Based on the Boom! Studios graphic novel of the same name by "Goosebumps" author R.L. Stine, "Just Beyond" takes viewers on a chilling, far out adventure with a new cast of characters in each of the season's eight episodes. Delving into the supernatural worlds of witches, aliens, parallel universes and more, creator Seth Grahame- Smith ("Dark Shadows," 2012) explores otherworldly creatures that could be lurking in the dark. This anthology series stars McK- enna Grace ("Young Sheldon"), Nasim Pedrad ("Aladdin," 2019), Leeann Ross ("Lovecraft Coun- try"), Gabriel Bateman ("The Mosquito Coast"), Cedric Joe ("Space Jam: A New Legacy," 2021), Riki Lindhome ("Knives Out," 2019), Henry Thomas ("E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," 1982) and Izabela Vidovic ("Veronica Mars"), among many others. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Dopesick" Opioid addiction takes tens of thousands of American lives every year, and Hulu's new drama miniseries tackles the topic of this decades-long epidemic headfirst. Premiering on Hulu on Wednes- day, Oct. 13, "Dopesick" stars and is executive produced by Michael Keaton ("Birdman or (The Un- expected Virtue of Ignorance)," 2014) and dives into harrowing stories of addiction and the ac- tions — specifically of America's largest pharmaceutical compa- nies — that led to this devastat- ing epidemic. From distressed farmers in Virginia to the halls of the United States Drug Enforce- ment Administration (DEA), this series leaves no stone unturned as it takes viewers into the epi- center of the opioid crisis. From creator Danny Strong ("Empire"), this poignant series also stars Peter Sarsgaard ("Garden State," 2004), Will Poulter ("The Maze Runner," 2014), John Hoogena- kker ("Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan"), Kaitlyn Dever ("Booksmart," 2019), Rosario Dawson ("Rent," 2005), Michael Stuhlbarg ("The Shape of Water," 2017), Will Chase ("Stranger Things"), Jake McDorman ("The Right Stuff") and Phillipa Soo ("Hamilton," 2020). WHAT'S NEW ON PARAMOUNT+ "Guilty Party" - Season 1 Get all the facts with the series premiere of "Guilty Party," land- ing on Paramount+ on Thursday, Oct. 14. Kate Beckinsale ("Under- world," 2003) headlines this new dark comedy series as discredited journalist Beth Baker. Desperate for a career-saving scoop, Beth latches on to the story of a young mother serving a life sentence in prison for the maiming and murder of her husband — crimes, she claims, she didn't commit. In the pursuit of the truth and her career, Beth finds herself in over her head amid her city's criminal underworld and secrets from her own past. Produced by CBS stu- dios in association with Funny or Die and Mosaic, "Guilty Party" is directed by Trent O'Donnell ("No Activity") and written by Rebecca Addelman ("Dead to Me"). The series also stars Djouliet Amara ("Seance," 2021), Madeleine Ar- thur ("To All the Boys I've Loved Before," 2018), Marnie Madden ("Heartland"), Wesley MacInnes ("Power Rangers," 2017), Alicia Thorgrimsson ("Stargate SG- 1"), Olunike Adeliyi ("American Gods"), Laurie Davidson ("Will") and Andre Hyland ("Mr. Roos- evelt," 2017). WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "I Know What You Did Last Summer" - Season 1 The slasher saga continues with the new series "I Know What You Did Last Summer" making its debut on Prime on Friday, Oct. 15. A series remake of the classic 1997 horror film franchise and its 1973 source novel by Lois Duncan, this fresh rendition follows a new group of teenagers. After an acci- dent leads to a man's death on the night of their high school gradua- tion, a group of friends find them- selves stalked by a mysterious and terrifying killer one year later. Craig William Macneill ("Lizzie," 2018) directs, with writing by Lana Cho ("Timeless"), Gary Tieche ("Preacher") and Sara Goodman in her debut. Madison Iseman ("Jumanji: The Next Level," 2019), Brianne Tju ("Light as a Feather"), Ezekiel Goodman ("Rat Bastard") and Ashley Moore ("Popstar: Nev- er Stop Never Stopping," 2016) star in the series. WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "Puppy Place" - Season 1 Roll over for the cutest friends around with the series premiere of "Puppy Place," launching on Apple TV+ on Friday, Oct. 15. Based on the bestselling Scholastic book series of the same name by Ellen Miles, this live-action children's series follows the Peterson family, sharing the stories of the dogs they foster. Charles (Riley Looc, "Wow," 2021) and Lizzie (Brooklynn MacKinzie, "Truth Be Told") might bump heads as they take different approaches to taking care of their foster pups, but they always do everything they can to make sure each dog gets into a happy, loving home. Discovering what makes each dog unique, the pair overcome hurdles and learn to grow together. "The Velvet Underground" (2021) Go for a ride with filmmaker Todd Haynes' ("Carol," 2015) new documentary, "The Velvet Under- ground," which makes its way to Apple TV+ this Friday, Oct. 15. An American rock band formed in New York City in the 1960s, The Velvet Underground became one of the most influential bands of all time with their avant-garde approach to rock 'n' roll. This documentary takes an in-depth look at the band — comprised of members Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker — exploring their music, their art and how they impacted the musical landscape. Including never-before-seen performances and exclusive inter- views, "The Velvet Underground" gives fans a look into the band like they've never seen before. The film is executive produced by Michele Anthony ("Beasty Boys Story," 2020), Danny Bennett ("Billy Joel: In His Own Words," 2001), Pamela Koffler ("Kill Your Darlings," 2013) and John Sloss ("Green Book," 2018).
