ate, Royalty was a sportswriter for the former Bloomington Courier-Tribune, where he was one of the first reporters to cover Bob Knight. His Knight relation- ship is the subject of a chapter. Others include reconnecting the author with a survivor of a deadly tornado after four decades, and Royalty's inside look at a show- down over coverage in The Star. "Tips and Tales" is both a memoir and a guide to writ- ing, reporting, and editing. Eleven chapters are devoted to advice gained from a career alongside tal- ented writers, editors, and writing coaches. July 2021 Page 9 Retired Indiana journalist Dennis Royalty has published "Tips and Tales: An Indiana Journalist Reflects on Craft and Career." Funny in places, touching in others, Tips and Tales is a first- person journey of highs, lows, and personal growth. The book fol- lows a more than 30-year Indiana newspaper career that included 27 years with The Indianapolis Star, 10 as city editor. An Indiana University gradu- Conner Tighe has joined The News-Banner as a reporter. The Delaware County native recently moved to Bluffton after earning his bachelor of science degree this year from Ball State University. Tighe has worked for other publications like St. Louis Magazine, The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, and Hope for Women Magazine. He was made senior reviews editor of Ball State's entertainment publication Byte until his graduation in May. "We are excited to bring Conner on board as a staff writer," Editor Jessica Bricker said. "He has inter- ests in a wide variety of topics, which will serve our commu- nity well." Tighe joins Bluffton News-Banner staff News in brief The Wednesday, Aug. 4, issue of The Ellettsville Journal will be the last edition produced. We hope the community has enjoyed the weekly newspaper over the years. Gannett Co.'s commitment to serving the Ellettsville com- munity remains. We are shifting existing coverage and resources to The Herald-Times, based in Bloomington, and we encourage subscribers and community partners to continue to support local news. Herald-Times reporters cover all of Monroe County, including Ellettsville and the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corp., along with reporting news from surrounding counties. The H-T also draws from the USA TODAY Network and other sourc- es to provide state, national and international news of interest to local readers. Founded in July 1939, for some time the Journal was part of Spencer Evening World Publishing. In 2011, the publishing company was sold to employees. It became part of Schurz Communications Inc. in 2017 and was later sold to what is now Gannett Co. Inc. Ellettsville Journal to publish last issue in August
