Congratulations! Pinnacle Classical Academy Enrollment surges; 2021 scholarship offers near $1 million On-campus learning is now available fi ve days per week for all K-12 students at Pinnacle C l a s s i c a l Academy in Shelby. " B e g i n - ning Nov. 16, through some creative use of space, we were able to welcome all high school stu- dents back to campus fi ve days per week while maintaining so- cial distancing and other state regulations," said Dr. Shelly Bullard, the school's headmas- ter. "We are a school of choice, and remote instruction remains an option for any student with health-related concerns." Since August, all K-8 stu- dents who have wished to attend in-person instruction fi ve days per week have been able to do so, while high school students received in-person instruction two days per week and remote instruction the oth- er three days. The tuition-free public charter school's enrollment has surged past 1,000, rising from 987 in fall 2020 to 1,083 in fall 2021 – an increase of nearly 10 per- cent. Total enrollment at North Carolina's district schools decreased by over 5 percent during the same time period. "When Pinnacle Classical Academy opened its doors in 2013, who could have fore- seen that in just seven years the school would attract nearly 1,100 students from fi ve coun- ties?" said Bullard. "Our growth is a tribute to our caring and hard-working faculty, our dis- tinctive Core Knowledge and classical curriculum, and the dedication of so many parents and volunteers over the years." She continued, "The 27 members of the class of 2021 have already been offered a combined $958,000 in four- year academic merit and ath- letic scholarships." In other Pinnacle Classical Academy news, the school hosted "College Day", as ad- missions offi cers from 11 colleges in North and South Carolina presented information about their colleges to high school students at Pinnacle Classical Academy on Mon- day, Nov. 23. Jeff Ziegler, Dean of Aca- demics at Pinnacle Classical Academy, located at 2401 Joes Lake Rd., said recently in a media release that represen- tatives from Appalachian State University, Clemson University, East Carolina University, Fur- man University, Gardner-Webb University, Lenoir-Rhyne Uni- versity, Meredith University, N.C. State University, Queens University of Charlotte, UNC Charlotte, and Wingate Uni- versity offered separate virtual presentations to high school students over the course of the school day. "Our students learned so much about the college admis- sions process," said Dr. Shelly Bullard, the school's headmas- ter. "We are grateful to our high school counselor, Dr. Caswell Martin, for arranging these vir- tual visits, and we look forward to hosting virtual presenta- tions from other colleges in the months to come." Shelby's Pinnacle Classical Academy is a tuition-free K-12 public charter school that at- tracts 1,083 students from fi ve counties, noted Ziegler. "The school's average ACT composite score ranks in the top 10 percent of all public school systems in North Car- olina, and the 28 members of the class of 2020 were award- ed a combined $3,414,868 in academic merit and athletic scholarships," Ziegler said. Enrollment forms for the 2020-21 school year are being accepted through the end of February, 2021. For more information on PCA, visit the school's website or call (704) 740-4040.
