Hemos visto a dictadores, mandatarios y partidos quedarse en el poder a pesar de haber perdido las elecciones. Lo sorpren- dente es que Trump quiera hacer el mismo numerito en una democracia como la estadounidense, reforzada por más de dos siglos de historia de robustecer sus contrapesos e institu- ciones. Pero no va a poder. Tras los mayúsculos fraudes elec- torales en Venezuela de 2013 y 2018, el dictador Nicolás Maduro no quiso mover su cama del Palacio de Mi- raflores, la sede del gobierno, y ahí sigue. Lo mismo ha hecho Daniel Ortega en Nicaragua quien organiza y cuenta votaciones a su modo y ya es el dictador que más tiempo lleva en el poder en el hemisferio luego de atornillarse en la presidencia en 2007. Y nunca podré olvidar cómo el Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) en México se pasaba el poder Cómo sacar a Trump de la Casa Blanca de sexenio en sexenio desde 1929 a 2000 sin importar los resultados de las elecciones. Bueno, eso que ha pasado en Ven- ezuela, Nicaragua y México, por dar solo tres ejemplos, no puede ocurrir en Estados Unidos. Y aquí les digo por qué. Aunque quiera y haga berrinche, Trump no se puede quedar en la Casa Blanca debido a que el sistema democrático es mucho más fuerte que él. El presidente, falsamente, ha dicho que ganó estas elecciones. Como todo el mundo vio, ganamos con cifras históricas, dijo en su conferencia de prensa el 5 de noviembre. Pero eso no es cierto. Hay pocas cosas más antidem- ocráticas que negarse a reconocer los resultados de una elección justa. Trump ha mentido tantas veces GANÉ ESTA ELECCION, POR MUCHO, escribió con mayúsculas en un tuit que es fácil perder la cuenta de las veces en que Twitter ha puesto una advertencia refutando su infor- mación. El paciente trabajo de los contadores de votos en los 50 estados del país indica claramente que el exvicepresidente Joe Biden consiguió más de los 270 votos electorales que necesita para ganar. Se ha estado diciendo que son los medios de comunicación estadoun- idenses los que deciden quién será el próximo presidente. Se trata de una equivocación. Como Estados Unidos no tiene un organismo nacional que organiza las elecciones y cuenta los votos, las organizaciones noticiosas son efectivamente las que dan el primer anuncio. Pero lo único que hacemos es reportar los resultados oficiales de cada estado y, sumando los votos electorales, proyectamos al ganador. Esto no es ninguna trampa o favoritismo. Así se proyectó a Trump como ganador en 2016, así lo hicimos con Biden este año y así ha sido por décadas. Este sistema nunca ha fal- lado. Trump, mal perdedor, está vendi- endo la idea falsa de que su derrota es por fraude electoral. Y mucha gente le cree. El 70 por ciento de los repub- licanos considera que las elecciones no fueron libres ni justas, según una encuesta del sitio Político.com. Pero eso no cambia la realidad. The New York Times publicó reciente- mente una investigación en la que hizo la labor de llamar a docenas de representantes estatales de los dos partidos en todo el país y concluyó que no hay evidencia de fraude o de otras irregularidades que hayan afectado el resultado de las elecciones presidenciales. Hay más. Una misión de 28 obser- vadores internacionales de 13 países de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA) tampoco encon- tró evidencia de fraude masivo en estas elecciones presidenciales. En las conclusiones de su reporte indica que la capacidad de los votantes para acceder al voto en circunstancias que no eran ideales ejemplifica la democ- racia por la cual es conocida Estados Unidos. Ni siquiera funcionarios del De- partamento de Seguridad Interna de Estados Unidos coinciden con el presidente. En una declaración que escribió un grupo de autoridades del departamento a nivel nacional, estatal y local se advertía que estas fueron las elecciones más seguras en la his- toria de Estados Unidos. Si Trump de verdad cree que hubo un fraude, ¿cómo explica los más de 73 millones de votos que consiguió y los avances del Partido Republi- cano en el Congreso? Todos los votos cuentan, incluyendo los que más de 78 millones que obtuvo Joe Biden. No se pueden aceptar los votos pro- pios y desconocer los de tu contrin- cante. El proceso democrático continúa voto por voto, casilla por casilla y eso es lo que está acabando con la presi- dencia de Trump. Tal y como dicen las leyes, para el 8 de diciembre los estados deben resolver todas sus dis- putas electorales, el 14 de diciembre se reúne el Colegio Electoral en cada estado y el 6 de enero el Congreso en pleno en Washington declara oficial- mente a un ganador. Todo voto debe de ser contado. Y si hubiera evidencia de fraude, que la presenten. Pero hasta el momento no la hay. Yo sigo creyendo en el sistema democrático de Estados Unidos. A diferencia del caso de muchos países latinoamericanos, cuyos organismos electorales siguen arrastrando prob- lemas de credibilidad o de autonomía, el funcionamiento de la democracia estadounidense es más confiable y resistente que un ególatra que se cree ganador y que se rehúsa a aceptar la realidad. La derrota de Trump tiene una sola explicación: obtuvo menos votos que Biden. ¿Cómo sacar a Trump de la Casa Blanca? Voto por voto. Eso es lo que pasa en las democracias.
