TV Media Doctors in Canada were shocked after pulling a three-inch knife blade from the back of a 32-year-old man. The knife had been in there for three years. Imagine that, the guy had a knife in his back for three years -- he must have worked at NBC, too! comics, as everywhere else, the role of women has evolved over the past century, and PBS is bringing this story into our living rooms. The network's popular "Independent Lens" program, which brings independent films to the small screen, will be showing "Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines," on Monday, April 15. The film premiered at the SXFW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, last year and has since been praised for its indepth exploration of how popular comic book heroines have often reflected society's anxieties concerning the liberation of women. To tell this inspiring story, "Wonder Women" takes a behind-the-scenes look at some 1970s TV stars: Lynda Carter, who played the iconic heroine in the ABC/CBS series "Wonder Woman," and Lindsay Wagner, who wowed television audiences in ABC/NBC's "The Bionic Woman." Along with these two accomplished actresses, a number of comic writers and artists also weigh in on the changing role of heroines in the genre, and how the modern portrayal of women in superhero comics, films and TV shows reflects the era in which we're living. Carter and Wagner are certainly fitting symbols of female empowerment. Carter hasn't sat idle since "Wonder Woman" wrapped up almost 40 years ago. These days, she's mostly focused on her successful music career, but somehow still finds the time to act; in recent years, she's been seen on the big screen in "The Dukes of Hazard" (2005) and "Tattered Angel" (2007). Wag- The Late Show: David Letterman The pope is urging compassion for those less fortunate. Of course, that means the poor, the indigent, and the oppressed. And also Carnival Cruise passengers. Jimmy Kimmel Live!: Jimmy Kimmel Tiger Woods announced he is dating Lindsey Vonn. Tiger said: "We have become close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and respecting our privacy." And the best way to keep it private is to post about it on Facebook. The Late, Late Show: Craig Ferguson It is spring in L.A. Flowers are blooming, sundresses are coming out, and Taylor Swift is gathering up new boyfriends to last through the summer. Even though it's warm here in L.A., people still have to wear layers -- at least until their plastic surgery heals. Wonderful television: In in small roles on a frequent basis. Lately, she's most notably been keeping busy in the recurring role of Dr. Vanessa Calder in Syfy's twin shows "Alphas" and "Warehouse 13." Being Blackbeard: One of Hollywood's most respected players is ready to make a splash and bring some skullduggery to TV screens. John Malkovich has signed on to play the notorious pirate Blackbeard in his debut at the helm of a scripted TV show -"Crossbones," which is coming to NBC as a 10-episode series. Set in 1715, the drama is based on the book "The Republic of Pirates" by Colin Woodard, in which an assassin sent to take down the notorious Blackbeard ends up enthralled by the pirate community. Attaching Malkovich's name to the project is almost guaranteed to attract interest. The two-time Academy Award nominee (for 1993's "In the Line of Fire" and 1984's "Place in the Heart") is a near-constant presence on the movie screen, with blockbusters such as "Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon" (2011), "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (2005) and "Con Air" (1997) jostling to find room on a resume already bursting with a huge number of other films. And those are just his acting credits. Malkovich is also a producer, a theater actor and even a fashion designer with his own line of men's clothing. Executive producer Walter Parkes is clearly excited about having Malkovich on board for "Crossbones." "We're awed by the opportunity to bring his brilliance to the small screen -- particularly in service of the character of Blackbeard," said Parkes.
