While it seemed like a nice project, the costs have skyrocketed. It is just way too much to spend with no professional anchor tenant and what would likely be a tough calendar to fill. No soccer (because of the turf), big concerts are fading to smaller venues that MGM wants to build, a football program that simply will not draw 60K, and you don't have much more than the rodeo and maybe a Final Four. Once MGM withdrew from the project citing the costs, I think the project was doomed. — TomD1228 How much money has been spent already on architect fees, planning, research and other costs? If you don't have AEG behind you, like the Sprint Center has in Kansas City, Mo., you would have a hard time filling it. — dlharris On Eli's Segall's March 27 vegasinc.com story about developer Rich Crighton trying to sell the unfinished Vantage Lofts condos ("Unfinished Henderson condo project Vantage Lofts up for sale again"): Crighton bought this for pennies on the dollar, and he's looking to clear his plate and make a few dollars at the same time. Prices are rising across the valley, and demand is high, so this is a good time to soft-shop it. — James P. Reza Finally a bright idea. Rent out the sorry eyesore after finishing it. Vantage is being surrounded with new homes with the same view, and you would have to be daffy to buy a condo for as much as a new house. — Robert Duncan (doogie) On Richard N. Velotta's March 28 vegasinc.com story about the Transport Workers Union telling Southwest Airlines passengers service may waiver if the company hires outsourced labor ("Union warns passengers about Southwest's outsourcing plans"): A union offers some great protections to employees, but sometimes they become more interested in making money for the union leaders than taking care of the little guy that they are supposed to help. — David Gelineau On Richard N. Velotta's March 29 vegasinc.com story about the Cosmopolitan's most recent earnings report ("Cosmopolitan owner posts net loss but says it's on 'right trajectory' "): The Cosmo's management is painting a rosy picture. They need to renovate the casino floor to make it more accessible to the public and have a reason for going there. I walked through, and I wasn't impressed. — Gerald Taylor (walleye117) | 8 APRIL 2013 | 4/4/13 2:36:47 PM
