GhilottiBros,Inc—Since1914 October6,2019 | 3 WelcometoGhilottiBros.Inc!Overthenext several pages you will experience the rich histo- ry of our company and the deep roots that date back to our founder and my grandfather, James Ghilotti. My father, Mario, always used to say how fortunate we were that James came from a small town in Italy straight to San Rafael, California. What a blessing! There's really no other place on earth like Marin County. We are also blessed that James was a skilled stone mason and used his trade to start his own company. And this was at a time that was extremely challenging for immigrants. What he ended up creating was a legacy of Ghilottis that love to build. The fact that he started this company has allowed future generations to enjoy the same passion for building great things. Of course, none of this would be possible if we didn't have great employees at Ghilotti Bros. We work hard to main- tain a unique company culture that fosters person- al and professional growth for all our employees in a family setting. I'm proud that GBI was recently recognized as one of the North Bay's Best Places to Work, for the ninth time. We love our employees and their hard work and dedication is the back- bone of the company. No one personifies that better than Frank Palagi who started with the Bros. in 1956 and still comes in to work today, 62 years later, with a song in his heart, a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. There's something to be said for being in an in- dustry where you have to go out and earn it every day. You determine the outcome and control your own destiny. Because the majority of the work we do is in the public works arena, we have to be low bidder to get the work and even then, it's just an opportunity. The real test is orchestrating crews, equipment, resources and a multitude of variables to build quality work under budget. We are blessed to have skilled craftsmen and craftswomen out building legacy projects through- out the Bay Area. Whether it's making roads safer, reducing commute times, installing ADA accessi- bility or creating vibrant multi-use paths, we are so proud that our projects truly do improve the quality of life. And finally, all these good fortunes allow Ghilotti Bros. to support and maintain our founder's philos- ophy of giving back to the communities in which we live and work. In 2018, GBI will donate in excess of $125,000 in response to over 200 donation requests. But it's not just putting money where our mouth is, GBI can be seen actively giving back to our communities in such regular efforts as supply- ing flatbeds for San Rafael High School homecom- ing, traffic control for the Bay Area Human Race event or moving the last surviving Mt. Tam gravity locomotive from Humboldt County back to Marin. So, know that when you're supporting GBI by having us do your driveway or sidewalk, you're also supporting your community. GBI is extremely proud to be a part of this in- credible community of Marin County for 105 years and with the beginning of the fourth generation now working full-time, we are even more excited for the next 100! 100+YEARS Cont.frompage2 With less than two weeks' notice, the company was owed over $7M and no way to get it. Mario's wife Eva and son Dante both joined the company around this time and together Mario and Mike navigated that incredible setback and successfully brought GBI into its next generation. In 2000, Mike and Dante purchased GBI's remain- ing stock as partners with Mike running construction operations and Dante managing the equipment. This summer GBI celebrates the addition of its fourth generation, Mario Ghilotti, a recent graduate from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, with a degree in Con- struction Management. He has joined the company as a Project Manager. Over the years, Ghilotti Bros., Inc. has self per- formed numerous infrastructure, heavy highway, site development, aviation, rail, and marine-related projects throughout the Bay Area. If you have trav- eled through the Bay Area, you have more than likely driven on a roadway that GBI has paved. Notable projects completed by GBI over the years includes, Crissy Field Renovation, Hwy 101 & 580 Overcrossing Improvements in San Rafael, Hwy 101 & Petaluma River Bridge, Hwy 101 at San Antonio Creek, Hwy 12 Widening (between Napa and Cordelia), original Civic Center Sitework, original San Pedro Road Walls and Widening, sitework construction for Vintage Oaks and The Village Shopping Centers and Re- surfacing Lombard Street "Crookedest Street in the World". Ghilotti Bros., Inc. Founder, James Ghilotti's philos- ophy remains today as the company's cornerstone of doing business, "Earn respect by doing a job well, treat employees with courtesy and respect, and do good work for the community in which you live and work." This philosophy has been carried on through today's third generation and remains an integral part of the company's driving force. We believe that our commitment to our founder's philosophy coupled with our family-oriented culture has been a proven recipe for success. When we combine that with hard work and construction focused on quality, the result is one of the largest construction companies in Northern California. Not bad for a small stone mason from Italy. A message from our president: MIKE GHILOTTI Willie, Dino, Mario, Babe
