When I walked out the hotel door and headed to my car, I quickly realized I had a problem. My car was encased in ice like a comic book villain had fired his freeze gun at it. After unlocking the doors with a key fob, I tugged at the car door for several pulls. Finally, with a hard crack, the door shuddered open. I started the car and took a couple of hacks at the windows with an ice scraper. This proved futile. Without fear that anyone would even think of stealing a car during an ice storm, I let the car thaw from the inside out. This was not the way to begin an important revenue campaign in Monroe, Michigan. An omen? When I reached The Monroe News, I was reminded why I love this business. No whining. The staff was there and Senior Director of Sales – Michigan - GateHouse Media, David Terski, was outside clearing the ice from the parking lot. Just another day. Now... one could take this ice stuff as an omen. But not the Monroe team. After an energetic kickoff meeting, they set out on the task of setting appointments. They expressed to me that the ice storm was a plus. Business owners would be by the phone. And they were correct! With a schedule full of appointments, ANC Media Analyst John Rechke- mer, arrived the following week and the advertising agreements start pouring in like water. The team attained their goal in just three days. Like they say on late night TV commercials, "And that's not all!" The Monroe News team and John went on to achieve 182% of goal!
