Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations (II Timothy 4:3-5a NIV). Pastor By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam In the Bible, the grace of God is His loving favor toward fallen man. St. Paul has more to say about grace than any other Bible writer, opening every one of his epistles with the declaration: Grace be unto you and peace. Little wonder, for he himself was Gods greatest demonstration of salvation by grace. In I Timothy 1:13, 14, he says: [I] was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious; but I obtained mercy and the grace of our lord was exceeding abundant. After years of service and suffering for Christ, he declared: But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel [good news] of the grace of God(Acts 20:24). Salvation is whol- ly by Gods grace, not partly by mans works, for in Romans 11:6 we read: if [it be] by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. And in Romans 4:4, 5: to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Thus salvation is not of works but unto good works (Ephesians 2:8-10). Good works is the fruit, not the root. All have sinned, says Romans 3:23 but, thank God, all may be justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24). Thus it is Gods purpose that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:7). Americas Greatest Asset By Clyde Dupin The Bible is the bedrock of our American society. This amazing Book has a plan for every life and an answer for every problem. The Bible is the most popular Book on earth. Travel the world and you will often find it on or in the night stand by your bed. The Gideons have covered the world with Gods roadmap for life. A Barna survey found 60 percent of American adults believe the Bible to be completely accurate in everything it says. It tells us there is a right and wrong and shows us how to choose the right. All the recent shootings in our schools were done by people who do not live by the Bible. Many who commit these terrible crimes worship Satan and others use drugs or have mental problems. In the past, the Bible was often read in the classroom and the Ten Commandments were taught. In those days, I never heard of a mass shooting in school. The Bible contains 66 different books and has 1,188 chapters. This wonderful Book brings comfort in time of sorrow and offers hope to the hopeless. It gives us the teachings of Jesus and a lifestyle that brings true happiness. A well-known leader recently told me, If there was no life after death I would still want to be a Christian. One of the great needs in many churches is for the pastors to preach the Word. The Bible has power and gives direction for the good life. I have read the Bible daily since I was a nine year old boy and still marvel at its wisdom and unchanging truth. My wife reads it through each year and finds it the inexhaustible source of real knowledge. The Bible and its teachings should be on the curriculum of every school.
