The Tigers entered with a record of 20 -8, while the Oaks stood at 17-11, includ- ing a doubleheader split on March 29, with Hiwassee winning game one 2-1, and OCU taking game two 11-3. In the first game, both teams plated a runner in the fourth, Hiwassee scored two more in the fifth, followed by an OCU run in the bot- tom half. The Oaks took ad- vantage of their opportuni- ty in the sixth, scoring two more, then held off a Hiwas- see College rally to win 4-3. Dillon Whitten pitched six innings to earn the win, allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits and a walk, while striking out 10 batters. Justin Hallum came in for the save, pitch- ing a perfect seventh. Hal- lum's save was his first of the season, while Whitten improved to 7-1 on the year. None of the OCU batters had more than one hit, as Whitten had the team's on- ly extra base hit, sending his ninth home run on the year over the fence in cen- terfield in the fourth inning. Noah Baugher (1-3), Colton White (1-3), Jacob Bedwell (1-1), Jenrick Rivera (1-3) and Landon Montgomery (1-1) all had singles, while Baugher, Whitten, Rivera and Austin Morris each had an RBI. White, Whitten, Jo- seph White and Will Davis each scored a run, while Bedwell reached on a walk, and Montgomery walked and was hit by a pitch. Game two saw the Tigers get on the board first, again scoring one in the top of the fourth. OCU responded to another Hiwassee run in the fifth, scoring three, fol- lowed by another HC run in the fifth. A fter neither team scored in the sixth or sev- enth, the game went to an extra inning, where a balk was called with Kyle Stuck- ey standing on third base, scoring the winning run for the Mighty Oaks. Tristen Cummings threw the first seven innings for OCU, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits, while striking out three. Isa- iah Barber came in to pitch the eighth, earning the win, his second of the year, while allowing one hit and striking out one batter. Tyler Shamblin went 2- 4 at the plate, with a dou- ble and two runs batted in, while Brandon Taylor was also 2-4, with a run scored. Morris was 1-2 with a walk, while Baugher went 1-4 with a walk. Jenrick Rivera drew two walks and drove in a run, while Devan Franz and Bedwell each walked and scored. Stuckey, who had come in to pinch run for Ri- vera, scored the game's fi- nal run. The Mighty Oaks, now 19 -11, will be back in ac- tion today, when they travel to Owensboro, Ky., to take on Kentucky Wesleyan Col- lege. The first pitch of a sin- gle, nine-inning match-up, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Middle school softball teams claim wins over North Daviess Pike Central Middle School Chargers A Team defeated North Daviess 13- 3 on Tuesday night, thanks to a strong start. The Lady Chargers scored on an error and a single by Macey Still- well in the first inning. The Chargers scored five runs in the second inning. This ral- ly was led with doubles by Lexie Onyett and Chloe Wil- liams, and a ground out by Madelyn Fiscus. Williams took the win for Pike Central, throwing four innings, allowing six hits and three runs, while strik- ing out seven. Pike Central totaled twelve hits, with Stillwell, Onyett, Williams, Delaney Welch and Alyna Sharp each collecting multiple hits for the A team. Stillwell led Pike Central with three hits in three at bats. The B team also beat North Daviess 5 -1 on Tues- day night. Karley Kavanaugh led the Pike Central Chargers to victory on the rubber. She surrendered one run on four hits over three in- nings, striking out five and walking one. Lexie Onyett threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Pike Central had six hits in the game. Onyett and Ka- vanaugh each managed two hits to lead the B team. PCMS softball teams remain undefeated Pike Central Middle School Chargers A team had everything working on Wednesday evening, win- ning big over the Southridge Raiders by the score of 9 -1. The Lady Chargers got on board in the first inning, when Lexie Onyett ground- ed out, scoring one run. They went on to tally four runs in the fourth inning. Delaney Welch, Onyett, Al- yna Sharp and Madelyn Fiscus all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Chloe Williams led the Chargers to victory on the rubber. She surrendered one run on six hits over five in- nings, striking out ten. The Chargers totaled nine hits. Karley Kavanaugh and Williams had multiple hits for Pike Central. Kavana- ugh went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team. The Pike Central B team also won big Wednesday night, defeating Southridge with a score of 14-2. Lexie Onyett got the win on the mound for the Chargers. She struck out five batters and allowed five hits. The Lady Chargers scored 10 runs in the first inning. Pike Central totaled 11 hits. Lakin Sorgi- us, Macey Stillwell and An- nika Montgomery each had 2 hits to lead the team. PCMS softball A team wins 7-0, B team ends in tie 7-7 Chloe Williams shut down Barr Reeve, throw- ing a complete game shut- out and leading Pike Cen- tral Chargers A team to a 7- 0 victory on Monday night. The Lady Chargers se- cured the victory, thanks to seven runs in the first inning. The offensive on- slaught came from sin- gles by Williams, Macey Stillwell and Karley Ka- vanaugh, and doubles by Lexie Onyett and Tessa Vinnedge. Williams took the win for Pike Central. She tossed five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 11 and walk- ing zero. Alyna Sharp led Pike Central with two hits in three at bats. The Pike Central Lady Chargers' B team and Barr Reeve ended in a 7-7 tie Monday night. Karley Ka- vanaugh and Myra Hens- ler shared pitching duties on the mound, striking out seven batters total. The Chargers had six hits in the game. Lex- ie Onyett and Kavanaugh each had two hits to lead the Chargers. Lady Charger middle school softball teams defeat Jasper Pike Central Middle School Chargers A team cruised to an easy victory over Jasper 11-2 on Thurs- day night. The team fired up the offense in the first inning when Delaney Welch grounded out, scoring one run. The Lady Chargers notched three runs in the third inning. The big in- ning was thanks to a triple by Welch and an error on a ball put in play by Karley Ka- vanaugh. Chloe Williams led the Chargers to victory in the circle. She went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out eleven and walking zero. The Lady Chargers launched two homeruns on the day. Williams went deep in the first inning. Al- yna Sharp had a long ball in the fifth inning. The girls collected 11 hits on the day. Macey Stillwell, Williams and Sharp each had two hits to lead the team. The Pike Central B team also easily defeated Jasper Thursday night. Myra Hensler was bril- liant in the pitcher's circle, as she threw a no-hitter to lead Pike Central past Jas- per 10 -0. The Lady Chargers got things started in the first inning when they scored on a stolen base and a single by Lexie Onyett. The team went on to score five runs in the third inning. The rally was led by a single by Onyett, a ground out by Hensler, an error on a ball put in play by Hailey Ful- cher, and a double by Kar- ley Kavanaugh. Hensler earned the win for the B team. She allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking one. On- yett led Pike Central with three hits in three at bats. Lady Chargers best the Rebels 79-53 Lady Chargers bettered South Spencer 79 -53 in their PAC dual meet, taking sev- en first place finishes and 13 seconds in the process. Al- yssa Jenkins won the shot put with a 29'6" toss and won the discus with a distance of 100'0". Erika Vinnedge was second in discus and was third in the shot. Quinlan Teague won the 3200 in 13:37.5, with Laney Johnson and Morgan Sal- lee second and third in the sweep. Teague, Jenna Mey- er, Lily Willis and Charlotte Dudenhoeffer teamed for the 3200 -meter relay win in 12:16.56 and Lily Fred- erick-Rice, Kayla Cannon, Laney Johnson and Bella Toman took second. The Lady Chargers swept the 1600 -meter run, with Kya Leighty first in 5:52.62, Teague second and John- son third. Lily Willis won the 800 in 3:03.37, with Lily Frederick-Rice in second. The team of Lauren Young, Meyer, Dudenhoeffer and Leighty were first in the 1600 -meter relay, clocking 4:41.06. Jayln Nelson and Leighty were second and third in the high jump, and Meyer and Willis placed second and third in the pole vault. Dudenhoeffer finished third in the long jump. Young and Morgan An- derson placed second and third in the 100 hurdles, and Nelson and Jade Kam- man were second and third in the 100 -meter dash. Young, Anderson, Kamman and Nelson got second in the 400 -meter relay, and Duden- hoeffer and Toman placed second and third in the 400 dash. Young and Anderson finished second and third in the 300 -meter hurdles, and Kamman and Emma McKin- ney were second and third in the 200 -meter dash. Kirby wins pole vault at invite Charger Tyler Kir- by cleared the pole vault height of 13'6" to win the Du- bois-Pike Invite last week. The junior qualified for state last year and is winning the pole vault this year, one foot above the nearest compe- tition at the invite. Sopho- more teammate Colt Arm- strong had the next best fin- ish at Jasper, taking third in the high jump at 5'6". A second for the 4x400 re- lay and third for the 4x100 meter relay were the next best place winners. Nate Woolery finished fourth in the 1600 -meter run, clock- ing 5:01.22. Armstrong ran a 26.27 to fourth in the 200 -meter run and Stephen Krieg garnered sixth place in the discus with a toss of 118'2". Jasper won the meet with 186, followed by Southridge (89), Forest Park (40), Pike Central (30) and NE Dubois (8).
