The setting is a middle class neighborhood in Atlanta in the 1980s. The novel revolves around James Witherspoon's two families - the public one and the secret one. When the daughters from each family meet and form a friendship, only one of them knows they are sisters. It is a relationship destined to explode. This is the third novel from an author deemed "one of the most important writers of her generation." Williams served aboard Admiral Flucky's highly decorated diesel submarine and witnessed some of the first Navy SEAL-type action against the island of Japan resulting in a train on the Barb's crowded battle flag. Brown and Collins will explain the technical challenges and missions of attack nuclear submarines similar to those in the movie "Hunt for Red October."
