1. Why did you want to start your own business? I never intended to own a business. In 2000, I was sharing Reiki in a small wellness center, and the owner changed her mind and left quickly. My Reiki practice was growing rapidly, and taking over the business felt like an opportunity to keep the wellness center going. I learned business practices on my own without any on-the-job training. In my heart, I am always about love and service. I have grown gradually into accepting the role of entrepreneur, leader and mentor. 2. What makes your business unique? Reiki by Rickie—ReikiSpace & Learning Place—is the Harrisburg area's !rst Reiki center. e entire practice is managed by the Reiki Healing Principles of mindfulness, choosing peace and faith, integrity, compassion and gratitude. ReikiSpace is successful because it is in integrity with Reiki. We o&er a warm and nurturing safe space for healing that is also grounded and professional. Reiki by Rickie students have the unique opportunity to become practitioners in the space and grow their practices in a beautiful space with support and guidance. In addition to a full-time client schedule, sharing workshops and classes, and managing east and west shore locations, I o&er a mentorship program that I call "Follow your Heart AND Do it Smart!" for small business owners and holistic healers who want to step forward with their practices, leading with love and service and not focusing on numbers, dollars, competition or fear. e practice of Reiki itself is very unique. It is a gentle, hands-on healing for stress management, balance and inner peace that heals at the underlying source. 3. What's the most fun or gratifying part of what you do? I work in a beautiful, peaceful, healing environment. I have a team of practitioners who share the values of Reiki and present a uni!ed attitude and philosophy. I assist clients and students to release old fears, allow their light to shine and become more of their true self. As each client and student works on their own healing, we put out more light into the world. My mission is to bring the inner peace of the Reiki experience in a grounded way to as many people as possible in every walk of life. I make a conscious daily choice to live and work by the Reiki healing principles. is !lls my heart every day. Why did you decide to go into your profession? After nearly 21 years as a wealth advisor with a national broker dealer, I embraced entrepreneurship in 2017 as founding partner of Avantra Family Wealth. I wanted to provide clients with concierge !nancial services and bring a level of holistic personal attention during every season of their lives. At Avantra, we devote ourselves to helping improve the !nancial, professional and personal well-being of all our clients, and it's incredibly rewarding. Serving others, teaching the next generation about !nancial stewardship, and helping individuals and families achieve !nancial independence give me purpose as a business owner. 2. What makes your business unique? We are deeply committed to our clients throughout their earning years and retirement years. Routinely, clients experience major health events or major family emergencies, and we are one of the !rst, if not the !rst, phone call. We help them make !nancial decisions to ensure a high quality of life regardless of treatment paths or the type of family circumstances that alter their lives. Our clients, which sometimes include multiple generations, depend on us to be trusted advisors who help them navigate life's changing circumstances. We build meaningful relationships, not algorithms. With a focus on long-term life goals, our !rst conversation with new clients is never about money—it begins with career goals, family goals, and includes health and wellness discussions. Two of our niche services are collaborative divorce and private divorce mediation. As a Certi!ed Divorce Financial Analyst, my experience helps to change people's lives as they !nd !nancial and emotional healing. Very few people plan for divorce, and many people are unprepared when it does occur, but we walk alongside families and help guide them to make smart and prudent !nancial decisions that alleviate some of the bitterness and !nancial sting of uncoupling. 3. What's the most fun part of what you do? In addition to my 23 years of wealth management for professionals, women in business, and families, I also serve as a critical response team member and volunteer !re!ghter/ EMT in Pennsylvania. Financial advising is not unlike emergency services or crisis response. In all of those situations, we're encountering the unknown and are charged with making quick, strategic, sometimes life-changing decisions. Whether in collaborative divorce settings, guiding a family through prudent investment decisions, preparing young people for retirement, or inspiring students to imagine a bright, high-potential future, protecting people and keeping them safe is the most gratifying part of my career.
