En el café fundado por Eleazar Delgado hace casi un cuarto de siglo, se puede ser testigo de su diversidad racial e idiomática, de su pasión por el arte, de la amabilidad de su gente y de un espíritu emprendedor que han hecho de Pilsen un barrio cada vez más próspero. El propio Eleazar es un testimonio vivo de lo anterior. Cuando en 1994 abrió su pequeño café en la calle la 18 "había puro establecimien- tos para vender tacos, panaderías y dul- cerías", y los vecinos -dijo- no eran enton- ces muy abiertos a aceptar lo nuevo". Nada importó al joven empresario; ni siquiera las amenazas de pandilleros para que cerrara su sueño de un portazo. Elea- zar abrió cada mañana el negocio, colan- do café del bueno, lavando tazas y platos, barriendo y sonriendo a sus clientes has- ta hacer del Jumping Bean un orgullo del vecindario junto a un grupo de negocios diversos. Porque es el barrio donde conviven "La Casa del Pueblo" y la poderosa constructora Ozinga; Don Churro El Moro de Letrán y Czarnowski, la compañía de Zach Nagle. Since the coffee shop was founded by Elea- zar Delgado almost a quarter of a century ago, you can witness its racial and linguistic diversity, its passion for art, the kindness of its people and an entrepreneurial spirit that have made Pilsen an increasingly prosperous neighborhood. Eleazar himself is a living testimony of the above. When in 1994 he opened his little cafe on 18th Street, "there were pure establis- hments to sell tacos, bakery and confec- tionery" and the neighbors, he said, were not very open to accept new things. Nothing mattered to the young entre- preneur; not even the threats of gang members attempting to slam the door on his dream. Eleazar opened the business every morning, pouring delicious coffee, washing cups and plates, sweeping and smiling at his customers, making the Jum- ping Bean a pride of the neighborhood with a group of diverse businesses. Because it is the neighborhood where "La Casa del Pueblo" and the powerful construc- tion company Ozinga coexist; Don Churro El Moro de Letrán" and "Czarnowski", Zach Nagle's exhibit and event marketing company.
